I apologize if this sounds like a ridiculous question to some of you, but what actually happens during Freshers' Week? Am I right in presuming there are no classes? What do we actually do for the week?

Any info on it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :p

Presuming you are actually a fresher...

Settle into college, take a whole bunch of tours. Go on these, they're important. Especially the library one. Meet your tutor / advisor. Get an idea of where everything is. Go on several dreadful organised nights out. Join loads of societies you'll never go to, plus the two you might actually get seriously involved in (good luck knowing which two!). Ideally, meet people you genuinely have a lot in common with for the first time in your life and make friendships that'll last a lifetime. Get your lecture and tutorial schedule sorted. Make sure you have books and other equipment. Make sure your college email is working. Make sure you know what courses you're taking and where they are. Have fun.

    ...did I leave anything out?

Your college should post the booklists for your courses to you. If they don't, drop into the department(s) during Fresher's Week and ask for them.

Don't buy loads of books during Fresher's Week. Wait until the first lecture, when they invariably say "Just use this one, the others are a reference guide only", or "We won't really be working from the book". :)

However, if you're doing a humanities/literature course and they list a book as being lectured on in the first week, read it. Seriously.

Freshers' week? Grab as much free stuff as you can and blow your budget on drink and going out. Bascially the same as any other week in college! Try and attend the odd lecture too, they are on during freshers' week.:)

theirs orientation week, then I think people call the week after freshers week.
Orientation week for a fresher would be the first week you go to the college, but will have no classes, Just talks, tours, get your student card, meet people...etc. you get sent a timetable you use to figure out what you're doing and when.

the next week is when lectures start. so everyone is back at college. Theres still free stuff floating around. Make sure you go to all your lectures at least for the first week of so. You won't do much work but you'll meet your classmates, get told about each module, what books to buy etc...

I'd say the opposite! dont go 2 lectures and for the love of God dont buy books, i havent bought a book all year, just use the library books because chances are you'll only need a certain book for 1 year or even 1 semester!! freshers is unreal its just a big session 2 get 2 know people and stuff, just get out ther and meet people, some of my best mates i met durin freshers, go on all the nights out, maybe tough but its worth it and if ya can manage a few lectures during the day (can be tough with the with hangover - get used to it!) all the better but in the first week lecturers expect ya 2 get "lost" (in the pub!) so dont be worryin about it!:p
