Any UK freeview receivers work for Irish DTT ?

Hello,

Im new to DTT and im shopping in the north tommorow and im wondering if I can purchase any uk freeview system that works in the south for Irish DTT?

I know I can use Irish DTT as my neighbour has the same aerial set up as me and has purchased a cheap DTT system of ebay that workd very well for the Irish DTT test transmission. He managed to pick up a box on ebay for just €20 inc postage. Ive not been able to find anything for less than 50 - 60.

I was hoping that something in the north may work with the Irish system, i understand they use mpeg 2 and we use mpeg 4 but I was hoping there may be something cheap and working that i can pick up from argos.

Freeview HD boxes or TV's have got mpeg4 capable tuner on them so they should work fine but with out Saorview Cerifivcation there is a slight risk they may not.

I assume your neighbour got a Sagem picnic box - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sagem-ITD81-SD-Picnic-Ready-Digital-Freeview-Box-/270606294659?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_ConEle_SatCableFreeview_RL&hash=item3f01645e83 . That chap will deliver to Ireland but you'll have to ask first. If there are HD channels when Saorview offically launches that sagem picnic box will not be any good for them , it should be fine for SD.

JUST to stress the point FREEVIEW HD not Freeview should be fine

The picnics are a waste as RTE will have HD inside next year or so.
