Can anyone recommend a studio for a great drum sound

    Hello

I’m about to commence recording an album with the band im in, we’re hoping to do most of the recording ourselves but would like to get the drum tracks done first in a studio because we don’t have the gear to record drums properly.

I’m hoping to achieve a variety of drum sounds however overall would like the drums to have a nice open, natural, roomy sound – I suppose early Motown records and some of the early 80s indie pop records would be a good indicator of the sound I’m after.

I have a decent drum kit, plenty of cymbals etc im reasonably confident in my playing abilities but would like to find somewhere to get decent results recording without breaking the bank.

Has anyone listened to anything recently coming from an irish studio and been really impressed by the drum sounds? Can anyone recommend a studio/engineer for getting a great drum sound or a nice room for recording drums?

    Thanks for your help

depends on your budget but i'd recommend myself (obviously im gonna :D) but the studios i currently have access to are a bit more expensive, although i'm taking a new job in a more budget friendly place very soon.

or mick at trackmix studios (he's a member on this forum)

mick will get you a superb drum sound. not sure of his prices but i know he's very affordable and has great gear.

or robin ball (also on this forum) - again not sure of his prices but im currently mixing a track he recorded drums on and they sound superb!

Thanks for recommending me guys ;-)
If you want to hear drum track multis from the studio, download the tracks from this topic:

I did a track for Fitz's band and we uploaded the tracks for people to have a go at mixing.
The kit on this is the band's own Pearl session maple.
The studio has a Sonor S Class maple kit (2x22 kicks, 10,12,13,16 toms, 14 snare, tama metalworks steel snare, tama deep maple snare, Zildjian A Customs 14 hats, 16,17,18 crashes and 22 ride)
PM me for prices and availability.
    Michael

I'd recommend Liam and Jimmy's studio in Bow Lane Dublin City Center, I'm not sure if they have a name for it. They have a really excellent purpose built room, high ceiling etc. and a massive selection of really great microphones and out board. Also lots of cool amps and guitars...

It really is a great studio, my first choice for tracking and if you want a great engineer ME!!!

If you want to send me a private message I'll get you their number.

Peter Maher's Middlewalk is an outstanding facility.

Designed by Chris Walls of Munro Acoustics (and kitted out by us!) it has to be one of the finest studios (if not the finest) in Ireland .

Mahers is great.... also bud you will need to have a big choice of shells etc.. to really find that sound you want, dont just turn up with 1 kit and a few snares :) do it properley if you gonna spend money ;)
