Well what are everyones opinions? I think wexford have a good chance to pull off a shock with the home advantage providing lyng plays as well as against galway and matty and pj step up to the plate.

Were up against it for sure but i'm looking forward to it either way.

EDIT: €25 for a ticket on sunday!

I hope ye run them close but I can see the quality of the Cork side being difficult to overcome.

    Cork to win comfortably

Cork wont need to get out of second gear for this.

Should be a handy one for Cork.

I hope Wexford put it up to us in this. There is too much talk of walking to Croker in September.

Dont worry they will. Home advantage is a bit of a plus. Cork will probably win but it will be close and wont be comfortably like some posters above have suggested.

Cork will win well if they want too... they probably wont want to give too much away right now but the competition for places will be fierce so all the lads will be well up for it at least

Hard to see the yellow bellies beating Cork, i hope they do though ;)

They ll probably need 2 or 3 handy goals to keep in touch and give them any chance of pullin off what wud be a shock!

Is it on in Wexford Park?

Will many travel from Cork for it with a Munster Hurling final on Saturday or are the football & hurling supporters a different crowd?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 3,807 ✭✭✭castie

Bit of a different crowd in general. Most areas of Cork are split.
Still cant see that many traveling to Wexford Park though.

You be doing well to see 300 Cork supporters at it.

Cork should do it but god knows no better team to make a balls of it then Cork.........................actually Mayo:D

Can only see an easy enough Cork win here. Wexford hopefully will put it up to them, and it probably will be close for a good while. But reckon Cork can step up a gear if needed to pull clear.
Cork are in my opinion one of the top 2 sides in the country and just can't see them slip up here.

Cork ought to win this but Wexford are not easy to beat on their own home ground. I remember Tyrone going down there for a qualifier a few years ago and just about escaping with a narrow win.

As much as Galway aren't that great at the moment, for Wexford to go up to Salthill and beat us was a cracking result for them. They will need to play alot better to trouble Cork of course, but if Mattie Forde could find a bit of form (he did nothing against Galway) then Wexford have enough about them to make a good game of this. Cork to win but not without a fight.

I expect a dog-fight and a few hairy moments for Cork but they should pull away a bit in the last 15-20 minutes to win by 5-6 points. Cork have the players on the bench such as Paul Kerrigan, Nicholas Murphy and Noel O'Leary to drive the team on in the closing stages and hopefully complete the win.

Wexford are good in attack but Cork have the players to neutralize their main threats. Carey is very dependable as a corner-back and can shackle Lyng, Canty will keep tabs on Forde, Miskella should be able to handle Barry and Shields has the physique to stand up to Banville.

Can't see too many travelling from Cork, what with the replay in Thurles on Saturday night and Wexford being the fourth inter-county fixture in eight days. The admission prices for both games are a bit excessive as well given the economy at the moment.

Wexford are going with the same team that lined out last weekend against Galway

(Wexford v Cork SF) 1. Anthony Masterson, 2. Joey Wadding, 3. Graeme Molloy, 4. Brian Malone, 5. Adrian Flynn, 6. David Murphy, Capt. 7. Aindreas Doyle, 8. Eric Bradley, 9. Daithí Waters, 10. Colm Morris, 11. Redmond Barry, 12. Shane Roche, 13. Ciarán Lyng, 14. Matty Forde, 15. PJ Banville

I would expect Cork to win by a good amount. Wexford should give cork a good game but over 70 odd mins I cannot see any other result. I hope it is entertaining - for 25 euro I would hope so for all concerned. Expect a poor turn out of cork supporters - lots of games at the moment in both codes and people have to be choosy - can't blame them really.

Rumours abound this morning that Banville will not start and that Collie Byrne will come in instead

Cork 3 points up after 6 minutes, Cork playing with a strong wind in the first half

Listening to it on the radio, unfortunately I can hear some vuvuzelas :(

And Shields and Forde both got yellows for an off the ball incident.

According to the commentary here the ref was in to talk to Shields again

Over 10 minutes without a score now

Cork 0-7, Wexford 0-3 at HT. Cork played with a strong wind in horrendous conditions. Wexford fighting like hell! C'mon the yellabellies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

    Half time

    Cork 0-7 Wexford 0-3

Terrible conditions for the game apparently, Wexford will have a strong wind behind them in the second half. Cork were well up at the beginning but have only score 2 points in the last 20 minutes.

Sounds like a great atmosphere in Wexford Park, come on Wexford

Looks like it will be a very interesting second half - the conditions are certainly a great leveller.

Cork get the first 3 points of the second half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

Sounds like Cork are totally on top at the beginning of the second half :(

    Cork 0-11 Wexford 0-4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

Nicholas Murphy has made a difference since coming on

Cork win by 7 points in the end

12 pts V 5 pts - a good win for cork considering it was away and the conditions, very good second half performance.

I was there. Wreckless conditions. Cork did enough and are not peaking too fast which is a good thing. Need to increase performance next week though for the Limerick boys. Still believe Cork arent good enough in the forward line to go all the way to the All Ireland final and win. Kerrigan was headless when he came on and made some dreadful errors.

    many Cork fans at it?

There was no match attendance given over the park speakers but there were not many Cork fans there to be honest.... a few thousand I guess. I wont be able to make the Limerick match....but that should be a cracker. It will decide if Cork are good enough to go all the way if they win. This is a good Limerick side and ran Kerry very close....if we dont win by 4-5 points then we could be in trouble in the later stages of the championship. We should know next sunday.
