Face to face usability tests?

    Hi folks,
I am thinking about running some small surveys or usability tests where I ask members of the public to give me maybe a half hour of their time to test something out for me during which I'd ask them a few questions, guide them through the test etc.

I'm trying to think of ideas on where I could do this and for it not to cost an arm and a leg.

My needs aren't too crazy though, so hopefully I can do something. I'd need a quiet room (any size would be fine), for proper serious feedback I think the participants would have to be 21+, I'd only need 5 or 6 participants and I think each one would take maybe a half hour. So I could do the whole thing in one day depending on how long it'd take to get someone to give me their time.

I was thinking of doing it in a college somewhere, because there'd be a lot of people happy to give a half hour for €10 or so? But then I've the problem of getting a quiet room. A college canteen would hardly be good for a survey where the participant needs to focused.

Any ideas, any help would be great!
