I'm on a austerity drive (buzzword of 2010) at the minute.
I have a 7MB Eircom Bundle that I was going to downgrade to a 3MB broadband only, so getting rid of the landline telephone.

Will this affect my Sky+HD box in any way ?.

Thought so but needed to check.
Why then do they spec a landline as a requirement for Sky ?.

Its cheeky but your finger tips away from ordering extra's like a film etc. I have a landline but told them i didn't and they never said anything when they came out and installed it. I know a few other friends who have done the same.

Would the fact I still have landline broadband mean I could still connect to Sky Box Office through the Sky box ?.
Sorry to be asking too many questions.

NO- your landline will be disconnected so the skybox won't be able to 'phone home'. If you still want to order box office you can simply ring sky.The broadband will have nothing to do with telephone on your landline.

You only need the phoneline connected if:

    1) You have Sky Multiroom (all boxes must be connected to the same phone line at all times). Sky will probably act on this (by charging you full sub rate for each additional box), but generally give a warning first.
    2) You are outside your first year of a standard contract (where you didn't pay the one-of fee of ~€40 for a no-phoneline install). If you're still in that first year, you need to leave the phoneline connected. I'm not sure Sky will notice, or care, mind.

If neither apply, then disconnect the phoneline without issue. You can't get "broadband only" anymore (as far as I know; you used to be able a few years ago, but only after jumping through hoops), it comes with an active phoneline which your Sky box (if connected) will be able to use to order Box Office events, or (usually at a charge) the Sky Interactive services. If by "broadband only" you simply mean you're dropping the bundled/included minutes package, then the same still applies.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but I just want to be clear before I go ahead with this. I have had Sky+ in one room for about two years with landline. Can I just go ahead and cancel the landline without informing Sky? Will this affect my Sky+ recording ability? Also, if I need to order movies/services can I do this by calling Sky on my mobile phone? Thanks

No need for landline for single room, not having it won't affect the functions of the box in any way and you can order box office using your mobile-just ring 0818 719 819 and follow the prompts and options.

I am confused here - if you cancel your landline then you will no longer have broadband!

The only thing I can thing is that you are using something like 3G as eircom broadband requires a landline for the router.
