Came across this on flickr. Claims it's a junction in "Cork"....is it? Just curious.

Also what is the weirdest motorway or dc junction in Ireland in your opinion?

Don't know about the junction in Cork, but the weirdest junction in Ireland has to be the new N3-M50 Junction, what a mess!

Jesus, just because it's not finished doesn't mean that it won't be a weird junction when it is finished!

I know its still under-construction, but the junction 'will' be very messy (design wise). Have you seen the plans, very weird!

I'm with ya 100% irishdub14, I've seen the plans and it's an oddball looking arrangement alright. I suppose any solution for it was going to be complex given the restrictions in place and range of movements necessary.

    :)

I'd imagine that the simplicity of any design for the junction is somewhat compromised by the need to factor in the fact that there are a railway, a canal, and a water main all crossing the M50 right through the centre of the junction.

It looks like the junction of the N20 and N21 outside limerick, but the plane seems very low to be that far away from the airport.

I've zoomed in. I don't think its Cork. Its not the N21/20 junction in Limerick either.

Golf course on the bottom left. In fact, I am not convinced that this is in Ireland at all.

I also doubt its in Cork but his previous photo which is entitled "somewhere over Mahon Point I think" IS the Lynch Tunnel approach.

Yes, the previous photo shows the approach to the Jack Lynch tunnel from the south. I suspect the photo the OP is referring to was probably near an airport in the UK where the photographer left from.

Correct, it appears to be the N25/N28 trumpet junction of dual carriageways.

Absolutely 100% isn't. There's water right behind the trumpet in reality, not land and another road!

Its definately 100% not the N28/25 junction, there isnt a roundabout anywhere near it.

I'm not convinced this is in Ireland.

Edit: People arent getting it :D

Hello. It's my photograph, and I think you are right. It's a scan of a photo, so pre-digital and I had no time/date stamp. But looking at the back of the photo, it is shot number 1 and all the other Irish photos come afterwards, so I reckon it's either somewhere near Heathrow, Gatwick or Edinburgh (the airports I was most likely using 6 or so years ago).

    I'll change the captions. Thanks!

I reckon it's likely top be the north of england/scotland due to the use of red tarmac....very rarely used in southern parts of Britain.

Showing my investigatvie side here, but if the photo was taken on the same flight as the one with the Jack Lynch Tunnel, then you were on approach to the short runway in Cork. This probably means you were on a small propellor type plane - Aer Arann - Air Wales (RIP) etc.

Aer Arann would be right - I flew with them to Edinburgh quite a few times. And this allies with the previous comment about red tarmac being used in the north of England / Scotland.

    Is it Carrigtohill I wonder?

    Edinburgh it is then

The motorway is the M8 junction 3 outside the village of Dechmont.
