    Hi Guys,

Just thought this was interesting for Ryanair etc .. or any online payments.

How do you make that out .. Entropay loading fee is 3.95%,

    Wirecard is 25.90 / year + 5 euro shipping.

    I'm using http://www.moneybookers.com

10 Euro on signup for the card
No load fees from bank account or laser
No ryanair admin fees as it's a prepaid mastercard

I've had no troubles with it 6 months in.

As JHMEG said, it's cheaper to pay the fees!

Have a search for the Dundrum card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,473 ✭✭✭Adamcp898

Which part of the Ryanair fee do you save by using one of these things?

Alot of shopping centre gift cards are prepayed mastercards, so you buy your gift card for whatever value you want, go to the ryanair website, book your flights, pay using your prepayed mastercard and you don't have to pay any credit card fee's. You can use the balance on the card to spend in the shopping centre or transfer to another gift card and use to book more flights.

Can you not just top up your card?
    Might be a silly question

    The €5 admin fee.

    http://www.ryanair.com/en/questions/table-of-fees

The above named card will cost more than €70 in fees over 2 years. You'd need to fly 15 or more times with Ryanair in that timeframe to save any money.

    www.neteller.com

Card is free, free transfer from local bank, 1.75% load from Laser / Credit Card

15 times one way, which is 7 trips (the majority of bookings would be return)

A trip for a family a family of 4 will cost 40 euro so it could be a bargain for some.

Stop being so objective towards the OP's post

Have to agree with you. Moneybookers is tops. Just been in Turkey used it for atm withdrawels €1.80 per transaction which is a hell of a lot cheaper than using your bank issue atm. Also used to pay for meals etc. using pin. Cannot find fault with the card.

Wirecard is just 3% loading fee. You do not need the physical card - the virtual one works perfectly with Ryanair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 fgaff

Hi forgot to say there is no loading charge with moneybookers. if you use your laser card it is instant & if you use a bank transfer it takes 3 days. but both ways are fee free. the charge for the physical card is €10.

I never said I was using it for just Ryanair ! :)

Would look at moneybookers but their site is down.

Tried to register with Neteller and my account was instantly blocked saying I need to send them a copy of my Photo ID and a utility bill.

You'll need photo id and a utility bill for moneybookers but it's a very straightforward process.

It all depends what eate you got exchange rate you got. Some cards charge a seperate currency conversion charge while others hide the charge in the exchange rate

Just on the moneybookers mastercard... I got this myself as I was heading over to Moscow on holidays just back 1 week. Unfortunately I didn't have a great experience using the card. It was refused in about 50% of the shops and restaurants in which I tried to use it and in Riga international airport when I tried to buy a pizza for about 6 euros:eek: But then worked fine in the duty free when buying some drink for 30 euros.

What made the whole experience even more strange was that my friends mastercard(issued by a bank) was accepted without issue all the time:confused:It felt like a lottery if it was going to work or not, there was very sufficient funds in the account.

I sent support requests to moneybookers about the problems, but they said it was down to shops and nothing to do with them.. they suggested using an alternative payment method.. (which in my case was my friends Mastercard)

Having said all that I have used it in Ireland three times since I came back without any problems and used it on amazon and another internet site. But when I'm in position to get another credit card issued by a bank I think I'll ditch it the moneybookers one as I never had an issue with my previous bank issued card in the very many places I had used it.

    Just my own experience..

Moneybookers all the way for me - can not fault it in anyway

Eastern Europe took a dislike to my laser cards some days, and not the next day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 fgaff

Have to agree with you. I also had a laser card refused in turkey previously even though there were plenty of funds in it. Moneybookers all the way for me also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭Shulgin

    Hard to beat moneybookers alright.
I use mine all the time, no troubles as of yet.

Moneybookers for me as well, instant Laser top up iz the biz...

Is is .. but Maestro is a total mystery to me, Irish Maestro doesn't work on UK sites (assume because they still use the Switch setup)

I would never use my Maestro card online anyway... no protection if anything goes wrong !

Erh? Why aren't people using Mastercard Prepaid?

Buy it for €6, load up to €2500 over the space of a year.
    €3.50 for loading onto it
You get charged 2.95% of whatever you're purchasing.
You can use it anywhere that accepts Mastercard.

But if you're like me and fly about 4 times a month, it WILL save you money. ;)

What benefits would any of these prepay cards have over a Visa Debit card for instance?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,686 ✭✭✭JHMEG

15 times one way, which is 7 trips (the majority of bookings would be return)

    Well, no it's 8.

But... the maths were a bit simple on my behalf and as you'd have to top it up (for which there is a charge) and you also incur a charge to use it the real number of journeys is 18 or 19.

A family of 4 wouldn't break even if they used this card once a year for 2 years.

Not worth getting. There are better ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,353 ✭✭✭ErinGoBrath

Erh? Why aren't people using Mastercard Prepaid?

    Because moneybookers is better
Buy it for €6, load up to €2500 over the space of a year. - €10 with MB and load up to €3000 every 60 days.
€3.50 for loading onto it - MB free to load from laser and bank
You get charged 2.95% of whatever you're purchasing. - MB doesn't charge on the transaction unless an FX conversion is required
You can use it anywhere that accepts Mastercard. - MB is supposedly the same although some people have had some issues in countries such as Russian/Turkey.

But if you're like me and fly about 4 times a month, it WILL save you money. ;)

Main benefit over Visa Debit is no admin on Ryanair.

It's charged per person each way so quite substancial savings can be made.

    Ah right.

But for any other stuff the Visa Debit card is the best option? Then just book flights with moneybookers.com prepay thing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,353 ✭✭✭ErinGoBrath

Pretty much. If you book a few flights a year I'll pay for itself.

€10 for the card itself is the only fee I've paid to date and I use it often.

It is, but I dont use it online either i use it to top up my prepaid mastercard

the 1.75% transfer fee works out much less than the ryanair admin fee, saved myself €100 so far this year

Oooooh it seems like it is!! Cheers for that! Might look into that now! Does it avoid Ryanair fees?

moneybookers IS a prepaid mastercard! & it costs NOTHING to load it using laser or bank transfer! can load 3000€.

    Guys,
Gonna sign up for the Moneybookers prepaid Mastercard. Is there anything I need to know before I sign up? What currency does it have to be in? Anything else??

Also, will it work on Aer Lingus??

    Cheers,
    M

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 fgaff

Yes it works with Aer Lingus. The currency will be in euro

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,369 ✭✭✭madmoe

    Cheers fgaff!

    M

PS: Just checked Aer Lingus and there is no prepaid Mastercard option there? I guess you can still use it to pay for flights but they still get the handling fee off you :-(

Exactly. Just like any other regular credit card.

Why don't people just use the Dublin Cty Gift Card for booking ryanair flights? I've used and there are no fees. Although it can only be loaded with €150 max.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 fgaff

maybe because not everyone using this forum lives in dublin.

I think I might go for this one instead. One thing though, can balances be transferred from one card to another like the Blanch and Dundrum cards??

    Where did you buy yours??
