British Gas Apprenticeships

My son has just finished his Leaving Cert and applied some time ago to British Gas to work in the UK as an apprentice.

He was turned down flat due to the number of applicants (there were 65,000 applicatants for 650 apprenticeships).

I cannot believe they have just re advertised! It takes 1 hour to complete the application process each time, which isn't a problem, but how soul destroying for him, when it is clearly a lottery as to whether they even look at his application!

Wouldn't you think that out of the original 65,000 - they would have been able to find another few apprentices without raising the hope of other youngsters?

It's the same with Civil Service jobs here, 100 applicants for every job. The thing is though, if you're not in, you have no chance.
