Just trying to get a feel for te types of ammo shot outside target rounds.

HPS are famous for their super-accurate target ammo but I am currently getting hunting ammo made using either the Sierra or Nosler Ballistc Tip bullets, and I would like to stock the more popular calibres and weights.

    Feel free to butt-in, but so far the popular c/f calibres appear to be;

    .204 (32gr, 39gr)
    .222 / .223 (40gr-60gr)
    .243 (55gr-95gr)
    .270 (130gr, 140gr, 150gr)
    6.5 (100gr, 120gr)
    .308 (125gr-180gr)

Are any of these weights & calibres more popular than others, and have I overlooked any obvious choices.

    Thanks for the help!! :P

I used to use Norma 120 grain Nosler BT in my old sako.

    dropped deer in their tracks.
Paulo6.5 uses same AFAIK on deer

I'd say the 40 grain and 55 grain .223 rounds would be most popular in that calibre.

In the 30-06, I like: 185 grain, boat tail, and FMJ.

I shoot the Remington to practice and the Hornaday in the field.

Was told that the 150 gr bullet was designed for the round. However, in practice, have determined that the 185 enjoys spinning through my Remington 700.

True, very difficult to get. If you are worried about supply, go with a 270. However, I am betting that the 30-06 will become more popular with time.

I have never seen a deer do anything but drop. What do they, politely call it - cranial evacuation? Incredible stopping power. We are talking not even a kick or twitch when the shot is placed properly.

Correct and true. When I had the 6.5x55 I used the Norma 120gr BT. Found them the best. But hard to find. Most 6.5 users only have the option of 139-140 gr rounds which I didn't like much.
I use 55gr bt hornady for my .223 which nailed 2 fox for me only a short time ago. I find them acurate and have an instant kill ability that I like.
So far in my .308 I have had very little option in rounds as there are very fiew available to try so I can only say that 150gr sp federal work well but I am looking forward to trying something with a BT.

I wouldn't mind hearing what's available and prices for .25-06. The bullets in question would be the following:

    Nosler-
    100gr Ballistic Tip
    115gr Ballistic Tip
    115gr Partition
    110gr Accubond

    Sierra-
    100gr Matchking (out of curiosity)
    117gr Gameking
    117gr Prohunter
    100gr Gameking

    Cheers Sam!

HPS should be back from Bisley this week so I want to compile a list of the most popular rounds, and try to get some prices up and running.

Dont worry of there is something missing as this will just be a "toe in the water" to see how the prices look to those interested parties. Other subsequent variants can be added at a later date.....I dont want HPS to blow a gasket and ask me what the F*$k is going on when I ask for 150 different calibres and weight combinations!! :p

Hope to have some prices next week at the latest!

Cheers Sam! I expect the spinning heads would slow down once they started getting the orders in afterwards. :p

Anyone who has a .223 tikka with fast twist (1 in 9) might enjoy 69 grain rounds for long range work

Also Sam anything in 300 win mag. Bought some Hornady stuff for the brothers recently and the price nearly killed me

What bullet weight do you use in the 300 Win Mag??

    It's the brother's rifle and I think it's 180 grain

As the ammo is pricey we haven't done a tonne of paper punching with it so to be honest I am not sure what bullet weight would suit it best actually

150 grain is also more than enough for dropping anything here but not sure which one is more accurate in the brother's gun
