Saw this linked to from IE's twit page:

    €125 for Cork-Dublin return. Nice.

Can anyone find a more expensive return ticket within the Republic of Ireland?

I reckon that could be done cheaper and possibly quicker by flying via Britain.

Indeed it could by booking in advance, and not as a walk on fare.

It could also be done by rail for EUR 42.90 by choosing your trains carefully, booking in advance online and avoiding peak time trains.

As a walk on fare that train price is far from good value. I'd consider the bus or ideally I'd drive.

But like you say by carefully selecting flights and so on I would imagine with enough notice it could be done for €20 with Ryanair via Liverpool. Maybe even less (last time I flew Dublin to Leeds it cost me 1 cent all in).

Indeed but walk on fares are set by the government.

Talk to your TD about raising the subsidy and lowering the fares!

60 million, Athenry/Tuam - but the German taxpayer is going to buy it for you.

You'd have to book it months in advance though.

If I wanted to travel tomorrow, Belfast to Cork return, it would cost under 60 euro return for the cheapest trains - coming up tomorrow, returning the next day.

A return flight to Cork to Liverpool, then Liverpool to Belfast, leaving tomorrow, returning the next day, with no bags, is 280 euro.

Aer Arann still provide a Cork to Belfast service, surely that would be the best way to travel this route by public transport?

NOw back to Irish rail ticket prices and I assume the prices quoted here are online prices? Has anyone gone into a station and asked the full return price for cork or tralee or faranfore to Belfast?

Aer Arann fly Cork to Belfast direct and I'm betting if you checked it it could be done for < €180.

Another benefit to that is you don't get mugged for the €10 tourist tax.
