Can I have Sky and still keep the channels I get on my aerial?

Basically I'm asking the question in the title .

If I have Sky TV can I also tune in the usual "free" channels you get via aeria like RTE1 and RTE2 and the digital RTE channel ?

We have been able to get Sky and have RTE etc on that but cannot tune in the above channels on the actual TV independent of Sky. Wouldn't be a problem but our sky signal is quite poor and it would be nice to have the back up of those 2 or 3 "ordinary" channels when the sky goes kapput!

    Can I do this?

Sorry btw that I don't have the technical vocabulary for explaining this quite correctly :o

Yes the Sky to TV connecting is scart whereas the tv aerial is Coax so plugs into your TV. DVD player or Sky box.

Sounds like your sky system needs to be looked at-contact a local installer to give it a once over and check dish alignment.

Sometimes, sky installers use the cable that is going from your aerial to the TV, as their downlead form the dish.

It's bad practice but thats what they do sometimes. This means that your aerial is not connected to your TV.

There are ways around this but most of these sky installers don't know what they are doing or more to the point what it is possible to do with a few simple bits of kit. They are of the opinion that if you have sky, you don't need an aerial....not always the case!!!!!!!!!

Get someone with a bit more knowledge to have a look, it can probably be sorted out easily enough.

On the subject of your sky being poor....this shouldn't be!!!! have it looked at
