    hello guys and girls

im caught with a problem here
so i have a chap that wants to get only BBC RTE TV3 without going for a satellite installation, i know just wants the house maintenance free.
there located in the west mayo region

now what can i do i explained that an aerial will be gone in 2012 that you mightn't get BBC with the hills around you either.
its hard to find a signal as well in the roof so what can i do im stuck with a problem. who's the best priced suppliers of aerials in Ireland excluding maplin and the likes.

SO what do i buy to help this chap out for the future

and this chap wants a price to get an indoor attic aerial to suit there needs no movement at all on the matter if the neighbor has it well it can be done.

where can i start to solve this problem ?

    thanks everyone

Talk to the neighbour, find out who installed his and does he get BBC (from a deflector I assume in west Mayo). The aerial for the Irish channels won't disappear in 2012 but it will for those receiving the UK channels from a deflector.

Be adamant that the Deflector solution is rubbish, won't last and he won't regret free Satellite TV for the UK channels. Take him and show a demo.

the guy that installed the BBC aerial is retired and its is a job for me so im not going to lose face by jumping around the village for advice or no one else would be bothered to get me. maybe they shouldnt but really im dealing with the wild west here!!!!!
but in saying that yep said the following that maybe your better off with sky,"not paying monthly" FTA its doesn't have RTE TV3

have explained that but then the neighbor has it
this chap is hard to get to see to the future so what can sort this indoor aerial as well ?

Tell him you'll put an aerial(s) outside for RTE, TV3 and TG4. These will still work after 2102.

Tell him, that the only long term option for english channels is FTA satellite.

If he doesn't go for that....then you've done your best.

No point in you putting in a system that you're not happy with it, and that he might end up "mouthing" about again down the line.

Hi just came across this and although Idon't have the same query I thought I might get an answer here. I bought a fta satellite dish not realising that RTE etc weren't available. We know very little about these things but believe you can install satellite dish and still keep RTE aerial? If so can anyone tell me who. We have the dish up and cable through the wall into attic but have yet to 'drop' it down - to do so we were going to pull up the original RTE (which also has the BBC UTV channels with it). Would really like to keep RTE if possible. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Do you have an existing aerial with RTÉ and the BBC/UTV channels?

If this is the case you can combine the satellite cable signal with the existing TV aerial cable signal. You will need one of these at the attic side to combine the sat and aerial feeds into one cable going down to the tv point and another one behind the tv to split the signal for satellite receiver and TV or replace the wallplate with this for a tidier job.

You will also require a few F-connectors for the cable ends.

Hi thank you very much or taking the trouble to reply to me. Yes I do have a RTE /TV 3 aerial so I am alerting my son to your response so he can deal with this. Again thanks

A satellite dish is far more discreet than any UHF monster needed to pull in the UK channels in Mayo.

A "Monstor" isint necessairly required if its from a deflector (A "colour king" grid with a "booster" preamplifier suffices in many cases).

Agree it would be madness to spend a lot of money on such a set up now though. Some of the deflectors may not even last until 2012
