    hi guys

i was thinking of purchasing a 2 man kayak for me and the youngfella (9) would also be handy if i could also fit in the daughter (7) as well i seen a few advertised where you could fit in another small passenger as well, they seemedto be mostly sit on tops do.

basically where i would be using it would be in the sea, mostly along the shore but may venture out around the heads a bit as i get more used to it. may also use it a bit on the river as well, but a bit unsure about this and would only plan on a smooth flat river if there is such a thing:D.

anyhow what type of kayak/canoe would suit me best?
where could i pick one up second hand?
is there alot to be saved by going to the north or the uk?
any kinks to sites offering good package deals (canoe, life jacket, paddle combos)

please bear in mind that iam hoping to get one for €5-600

    thanks

For the Budget a double sit-on top would be perfect and I would go to the shops and see what they can offer you as for €600 you could pick up a new one and possible some gear.

Second hand sit on tops do some up for sale but rarely are the double ones seen second hand. That said you could be lucky.

If you plan to go off-shore around head land May I suggest getting some training as tides, wind and weather play a big factor in remote areas like headlands.

    Hope this Helps.

just planning on messing around close to shore for the moment as i wouldn't be to keen on going far from shore with the kids. might venture out a bit further around heads and things with another adult allright.

but are the sit on tops suitable for sea kayaking or would i be better with a sit in kayak? and would his fit in my budget?

Sit on tops are just as suitable for the sea as sit ins. It's about using your common sense and paddling according to your ability and the local conditions. They also tend to be the more stable of the two types which is pretty paramount if children are involved. I have seen good models and package deals for between €500 and €600. Where are you based?

    i'am based near dungarvan co.waterford
got a quote today for a tandem malibu with 2 paddles and 2 seats for 700E but said he would do it for 650E but i felt this was a bit steep tbh

do you think i would get better than that?
was hoping to get a few lifejackets thrown in as well for less than 600E TBH
