    Hi all.

I'm looking for information regarding what hardware and software would be needed to create nice mashup's. Stuff like DJ Earworms United states of Pop 2009. ( Not the video part ) just the music.

I know it's tons of talent and I know i wont get as good as that. But knowing what software/hardware would be great.

I want to do everything on the PC so any hardware would need to work with a PC.

    Thanks for your help :)

There's no rules but you'd need a good DAW for editing and mixing. Like Pro Tools

Ableton Live is very good for creating music too.

DJ software is handy too for beat matching and stuff. Like Traktor Pro.

You'd need to know your software very well to create high quality mashups.

thanks for your reply.. I take it you mean the 003 Factory on the pro tools page.. Is there anything out there like that but cheaper lol.

An Mbox mini or even micro would do I'd say. Unless you need to record audio into pro tools. But for DJ and sampler stuff the Mbox micro would be my choice. Not for live DJ'ing though with only 1 stereo output.

For mash ups. All you need is Ableton and some monitors (you don't even really need the monitors)

Ableton will let you drag your MP3s straight into it. Correct them to the time you've set. You can tweak the tuning on your clips to make them match.

It's surprisingly easy to do. You just need two tracks you've got an idea for you'd like to mash up and there's not much else to it.

For mashups all you need is something like mixmeister.

    Why over-complicate things?
Mixmeisters tempo and beat analysis beats ableton's hands down,
i've never had to correct a track i've thrown at it, it gets each beat right everytime,
    and i've imported plenty.

Ableton will have a lot steeper learning curve, and is pretty overkill imo for what you want to accomplish.

    You only need ableton.

And when you see how easy it is to use ableton, you'll realise it takes little to no talent to do mashups. Trust me on this. Ableton can sync tempos but most importantly you can repitch so getting anything in key and in time is only a few clicks of the mouse.

I got Abelton live demo.. and my g/f's brother asked me to get 6 songs cut about 20 seconds from each song and line them up one after another with 1 second between each song... he's a dancer and needs the music for a routeen he's doing with his class...

If i manage to do it can i save it in MP3 format so he can play it ?

Also any tips for doing it would be nice lol..cheers

Probably not with the demo... you certainly couldn't save the project file.

Ableton is prolly not the best thing to use for this specific thing... If you can just figure out very basic audio editing in Reaper you could do this in about 10 minutes, max.

Knowing very specifically what you want, I'd advise Reaper. Ask someone in their forums how to do it and you should be up and running in absolutely NO time.

Audacity is free and will to do this easily.
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

You just have to cut and paste the relevant parts of the audio and insert a second of silence between them. You can drag and drop mp3 into the GUI. To work with mp3 you need this add on
