    Is it still been seeing in Windows?? You can try upgrade firmware (might it help) if not pull out the drive and check in another laptop if still no signs of life (mean no signs of recognise cd/dvd) buy another dvd drive. It might be problem with laser.

    try dvd lens cleaning disk, 2 euro 2euro shop or any good tv pc shop ,5 euro approx.like a cd player ,lens need to be cleaned now and again ,maybe once a year.

    Hi, have you tried this? (I think this solution is mainly for XP.)
    Is your CD Drive still recognised? If so, then thise ISN'T the solution for you..

    Its probably shagged

    I had a blue ray r/w drive replaced under warranty from dell a week ago, the first one they gave me didnt work so i am on number two now which is fine

    lazers are fickle things.
