lamping light

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good light that needs little maintenance for shooting rabits and foxes. I just need the basic model. Nothing too fancy pls.

On a different note. Does anyone use night vision. What are the prices like for night vision? Is night vision better than a lamp?

I use a Lightforce 170 scope mounted lamp. It is not without maintenance as the soldered joints tend to be crap and need replacing, but it throws the best beam out there.

Night vision Add ons and dedicated night vision scopes that can be attached to firearms are restricted and need permission to be owned. I don't know anyone who's been granted such permission.

Hand held NV which cannot be mounted to a firearm can be owned.

It has it's uses but I prefer the lamp.

I use a scope mounted Clulite and a hand held Lightforce 240(amazing how bright and how far this reaches) the clulite has a battery pack and the clulite works off the cigarette lighter socket(can be used with battery pack) i've never had a problem with either one and recommend both makes highly.

For a cheap low maintenance light for rabbits and the odd fox I would try my local Co op shop or farm supply store for one of there hand held jobs most will have a charger with them. Unless you are intending to get serious about lamping then there is the Clulite and the lightforce rigs.

Not at all. I do most of my lamping on my own. The only issue I've heard about them is the potential for light to reflect back off a mod into the scope. Since I don't yet have a mod, it's not a problem. There are various work arounds for that issue.

Dingle poltry supplys, Mac Eoin. Mike Johnson. You will find him on the net he is the main importer for light force and has a lot of other brands as well.

Main importer for lightforce/Nighforce is G&B in Galway, as per Nightforce e-mail I recieved regarding a few bits

If your going for a handheld lamp take a look at the Ucaller Night eye a clone of the LF 170 at about €60 in the dealers shops

you can use the clulite scope clamp to mount the light under neat the barrel just behind the mod, no reflection but does make the rig very front heavy but not a problem once using a bipod , depending on the barrel a bit of padding may be needed to get a good tight fit

I wouldn't like to have a lamp mounted to the barrel of my rifle to be honest, not sure but it may throw out the POI of the bullet.

I've heard of various things done, neoprene cover on the mod, spraying or painting it a matt colour, putting a bit of electrical tape across the bottom of the opening for the sunshade (not scope lens) to block off a little light, moving the lamp bracket backwards or forwards on the scope (if possible), adding a customised flower pot or other circle of plastic onto the lamp housing to keep light off the back of the mod. I'm sure there are others I just can't always remember them all.

The handiest and one of the most effective way of preventing light reflectig of the mod is to fit a black sock with a hole cut in for the exiting bullet tightly over the mod, also stops that pesky ding noise off the mod when it clips a branch etc, try it, it really works,

i'll give that one a try. you can get special mod covers they are like neoprene and they stop that ding sound your on about

If your using the sock then use an elastic band over the sock at the barrel end or else the sock will fly off with a shot.

I covered mine with camo sticky tape did it for me.

Those Ucaller lamps are good for the money if you want a handheld lamp but I don't think they come in scope mounted versions like the lightforce.
The scope mounted lighforce can also have a handle mounted so you can have either handheld or scope mounted.
You pays yer money and you takes yer pick.
I think a Lightforce 170 scope mounted is in my future, not sure about dimmable or not though.

i bought a lamp in argos 5million candle power(e30) to get me started, the lamp doesnt last long if you leave it on or switch it on to climb fences, i have a mini maglite for climbing and loading so the lamp last that bit longer, have it nearly 3 years its not the best but gets me out.
