Strange problem. I can't connect to java.sun.com in Ubuntu. It comes up as "unable to connect" in Firefox.. every other site works. Same in Opera so it's not a browser issue. It does work in Windows though so doesn't seem to be a network problem. When I ping the site it times out but the IP address comes up and when I put the IP address directly into Firefox it's the same "unable to connect". So it doesn't seem to be a DNS problem. I dunno. Any ideas?

Can you ping the url and IP, do you get a reply back from both? It does sound like a DNS issue. If you have assigned your IP and DNS then set it back to automatic or change your DNS.

I figured it out, it was something stupid. The java site is 192.9.162.55 and my local network is 192.x.x.x and I had the subnet mask set as 255.0.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0. So I guess it was looking for the site locally.
