High flow TMV/ Blending valve

    Hello All,

Last year I installed a solar water heating system & as part of the installation included a TMV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermostatic_Mixing_Valve) on the main hot water supply to the house. The pipe work is 3/4" & hence I used a 3/4" TMV. Looking back I think a 1" TMV would have avoided my problem but I'm now stuck with a low flow rate for the hot taps & awkward access to the TMV (behind a 200lt hot water tank).

Can anybody suggest a good 3/4" TMV brand/ manufacturer that would allow straightforward replacement?

    Thanks,

    Leo

are you sure its the blending valve. i have a 300lt store, fed with 1" and up stairs our flow is terrible, we had to install a pump for the bath and shower and WHB. down stairs was alrite. i put it down to the drop in pressure caused by the 300lt tank. it could be a case that the 3/4" is just not got kick for that size tank. what you could try if your sure its the blending valve, is a 1" one and reduce it down.

Hello,Yes, nearly certain it is. I was warned before putting in the solar system that all TMV's are not created equal. SEI have mentioned on their info somewhere about using oversized TMV's. The hot water pressure is miserable compared to cold water, and as there ultimately supplied from the same point (i.e. pressure from cold water tank) it must be the TMV.

I got a 3/4 inch TMV from Barrett's in Maynooth which might do the trick. I've installed a warm water supply (dedicated to shower only) to a triton T90si shower with no loss of pressure. Not as per the installation instruction I know but means no heating of water is required in the shower (on cold setting), at least for the summer months, should be reasonable energy savings & uses up some of that hot water sitting in the tank.Works like a charm!

TMV cost €40 in Barretts including connectors.

I attach a PDF of the TMV.
