Honeymoon in Malta?

Hi, myself and the girlfriend are currently hoping to get married in July 2011 and were thinking of going on our honeymoon to Malta.

Would one week be enough or two weeks be ok (thinking of two weeks but don't want to waste money if one week is enough to spend out there!)

(In case it helps I'll be just gone 31 and the missus will be a week shy of her 25th but neither of us are drinkers and not into clubbing etc)

She wants to be near a beach/sun holiday and I love exploring the area we go to...don't mind two or three days at the beach and we think Malta seems a good compromise....never too far from a beach/the sea!

Any pointers/suggestions welcomed! (Also recommondations on hotels/b&bs/self catering and we hope not to spend no more than €1,000-€1,500 on accomodation for two wks)

    Cheers!

    hi there,
we went there on our honeymoon in march 2001 and it was brilliant.
the weather even at that time of year was lovely.
we stayed at the fortina hotel in sliema , it was super -.
    eventhough a bit pricey.
one week is probably more than enough as the island is tiny.
definately use the local buses - the look like they are from the 1940s
Valetta is stunning to look at , from walking around it and looking across the harbour at night all lit up.
we went on a day trip to sicily to see mount etna and it was a great day out- you can always say once you are home that you were in two countries on your honeymoon.
there is plenty to do whether you are an alcoholic or a teetotaller.
by the way, we are hoping to go back there for our 10th anniversary next march - we loved it so much - but our 3 kids will need to be farmed out to enable us to do that

if you decide to go there you will love it i'm sure

all the best with the upcoming wedding

went on our honeymoon there in sep 07 and stayed a week in the RIU Seabank hotel near Mellieah towards the north of the island. Perfect if you prefer it not too crowded (no nightclubs but a few good restaurants) and want a nice sandy beach straight across the road (probably nicest beach we could see while there).

I would agree with foureyes, in 1 week we saw pretty much everything we were interested in. Buses are OK (cheap and an experience), but we also rented a car for a few days (and you thought Ireland had bad roads full of pot holes.... ;-) )

Only thing I would be worried about going in July is the temperature... usually 30 degrees and it can easily hit 40 towards the end of the month. Just make sure you have aircon in the room.

All the best with the planning and enjoy the day (and following week(s) )!
