Any way of knowing which is the first radiator in the system?

We've recently moved into a new house and decided to check out the heating before the cold weather hits.

Oil, check. Boiler firing, check. Rads bled, check.

So all the upstairs radiators have at least a small bit of heat in them and mostly they're fully heated. But downstairs I got some action out of two of them yesterday but then they just went cold. I'm assuming there's an air lock somwhere in there so I wanted to turn them all off and then on in sequence to blast it up, however I have no idea which is the first one in the sequence or how the sequence goes. Is there a convention or something or would I need the plans?

    Any other ideas appreciated also!

    I feel your pain.

I have this very same problem with a brand new gas central heating system

My living room is roasting hot,as is upstairs too,but the 2 rads in the kitchen allways seem cold to the touch

The upstair and downstairs wall mounted thermostats work fine, but the 2 kitchen rads dont even get warm.Nothing in fact.

    Its wrecking my head now.:(

Check to make sure that all motorised valves are open if heating is zoned.

Then turn off rads that heat, leaving only those that don't on. this should force air out of pipework into radiator. If air is the problem of course.

Can I ask you, where would these motorized valves be in the house, what do they look like, and how many would there be,on average?

    Thanks.:)
