Being honest, nothing worse can really happen to him at this stage.

Abandoning his custom made scotty, interesting. Don't see too many pros using high end Nike putters, could be make or break for them.

Lucas Glover and Stewart Cink each won majors last year using the Nike Method 001.

How many times have you all changed putters?

I have only ever changed once, from an ancient non branded brass like thing to an Odyssey number 2. I dont see any benifits in changing reguarly.

    Thoughts?

Too many things changing with Mr. Woods. Coach, putter, domestics, aura of invincibility.

I suspect he'll not ever be the same golfer. He's strong mentally, but all these things take an inevitable toll.

Two does not equal 'many'. Point I'm trying to make is that Titleleist and Odyessey have a majority of the pros at the moment so if Tiger goes out and has a bad time with the Nike putter then it wont exactly bode well for sales.

Putting is all between the ears not the putter you are using, especially at Pro level. I better add in a IMO to avoid the backlash from those who have spent a fortune on some brand name lump of metal putter that's no different to one that could be bought for a fifth the price.

nasa have done loads of experiments to prove scotty cameron putters are best though
and they put blokes up in the moon, regularly travel to mars etc
no offence mate, but ur out of your depth

Heard a brief interview with him on Sky and he was saying that he often experiments with different putters and that he tends to 'struggle' on slower greens. The putter he is trying makes the ball come off the face a bit faster or something so he doesn't have to adjust his stroke as much.
Or maybe he's just doing Nike a favour.

Im suprised to hear he has changed. That Cameron he has must be the most famous putter in the game given the success he's had with it. And of course he would be so used to the weight and feel of it that changing now seems strange. Ive no doubt he can adapt to the new putter and have success with it but its a strange time to change given the fact that the greens at st.andrews are so big and lag putting is so important there.

Ive read before though that he often hits balls with persimmon (wooden) drivers in practice with much greater consitency than his current nike driver. He was at his best when he was using the steel shafted driver. Pity the way endorsements and stuff have gone that he basically has to use whatever new driver Nike have out rather than a driver he can play well with.

who forced him to sign the deal with nike ffs?

I wonder did nike experience much increase in sales of rescue clubs to the womens market since last november:p

Is it just me or are all of these putters identical to the 20 year old Ping Anser I have at home?
Sure they can the heavier and lighter etc but still.

Lucky you put in "IMO" there.

    but your opinion is wrong

u my friend have no clue what you ar talkin about!! for 1, why the hell would NASA test putters!! And 2) look at all the REAL tests done on putters, scotty comes out one of the worst!! Hurrion has done tests, yes golf has done tests, and WRX have done tests, all of which proved scottys do not perform as well as everyone makes out!!

conno16 is the like the guy down your local who takes his mickey out and claims to have the biggest on show. You either ignore him or end up with your pants around your ankles down in your boozer.
Eventually you realise that his antics are entertaining, but not a serious challenge to your manhood. Then he becomes part of the furniture, and you'd miss him if he left.

what putter does phil use - looks pretty cool to me?

    and rory mcilroy?

    i'd buy either right now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭The_Architect

    Between the ears is right.

That new driver doesn't hit the ball 10 yards further either. If you add up all the 10 yards extra distance we've been getting, we should all be able to hit the ball 500 yards now.

Tiger's apparent reasoning is slower greens. I welcome this. I'd like to see greens get slower (whilst still firm and true) in competition. That way we can build them with more internal contour. The stimpmeter is a curse.

Bought a Nike Method about a month ago and I have to say it really works for me.

I've never been a good putter and I agree that a lot of it is between the ears but there's just something about how the ball rolls off the face.

The first day I used it had 26 putts, now I know stats can lie but at least 8 of them were from 6 to 8ft, a distance I've never been good at.

Last Sunday I had 12 putts in first 9 holes (no chip ins or putts from off green), and in the 6 rounds that I've used it have only had two 3 putts.

I always buy my putters on how cool they look too. ;)

On a more serious note; Phil's is a 29" or something ridiculous along those lines afaik [relative to his height of course!].

    looks pretty good alright
can you get an extension to the shaft? you know the way some blokes have a long putter..
presumably its not wise to tape on an extension yourself?

I'm sure if you ask Odyssey kindly they might make a longer one for you. ;)

Think Phil uses an Odessey White Hot #9 and Rory a Scotty Cameron Fastback as far as I know. Although Rory also uses another Cameron that could be a Newport, not sure though.

By the way conno, what was the putter like in that Bay Hill set of yours?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,500 ✭✭✭✭cson

Rorys yoke had a pink grip on it the time I caddied for him

Cat..... you know better to ask, and even if you could get your hands on it, which you cant, you would never be able to use it. It can only be wielded by the One

    Conno's alleged putter:

the bay hill putter is fine when using bay hill balls
mr palmer knows a thing or two about design

however when using a different ball such as a prov1 i began to struggle
just didn't get the same feel from the putter, the impact left a bad taste in my mouth
i started dropping shots all over the place
had no choice but to abandon bay hill
altho sometimes i still use the clubs at the driving range
[never received an appropriate offer for them, truth is i'd prob not sell anyways]

What a beautiful putter:) The handle off a coffee mug welded to the back of it makes it more aerodynamic im guessing.

I always had you down as a Ram Zebra sort of a fella conno. I hear though that they are only compatible with maxfli noodles.

A little OT I know but did anyone here catch a glimpse of KJ Choi's new putting style in last weeks PGA tour event?

I wonder if Tiger switching putters has anything to do with Nike sticking by him through all this scandal? Knowing full well that they'll sell bucketloads of the Nike Method putters if Tiger is using them, they could have said to him "Switch putters for us or we'll terminate the contract". Or maybe im way off the mark:)

I doubt it, what makes them more money is the publicity around him winning majors. Also I think tiger has enough money now not to Lise sleep over sponsers.
