Hi I am trying to get a 92 golf gti insured and i am finding it very hard. The insurance is ridiculously high as it isn't a clasic yet and if you have two cars the second car has zero no claims attached to it, hence the price. I got quoted 1700 for third party, anyone know any insurance companies that are "sympathetic" to having two cars?

I don't think the fact that it is a 2nd car is your problem here, it is the age of the car. You need to keep it under 15yrs minimum, under 10 if you can

I was told by my broker that Setanta insurance will allow you most of your NCB when taking out a policy on a second car. Im assuming that you would have to have your main car insured with them as well tho.

It is the age of the car that is the problem.

Many insurance companies take the view that the older the car the more likely it is that something will go wrong with it. You'd find that even if this was your first car that it would affect your oremium in an adverse manner.

I doubt it would be eligible for classic car insurance either.

This is a complete stab in the dark but perhaps worth a try. Maybe it would be no harm to ask if named driving experience applies to second cars (thats assuming youve been a named driver on someone else' policy)

It's not the age of the car it is as the OP suggests, he only has one NCB. I've had a 1992 Merc, 1993 Prelude and a 1993 520i in the last 12 months and they were all normal money to insure. Had a 12 year old Celica too 3 years back and that was also normal money, by normal I mean €450 to €600 ish per annum for a male in his late 20s with full NCB.
