Buying a first Laptop.

Ok, so I'll (hopefully) be going to college in September and therefore need a laptop.

I'm not sure what exactly to be looking for to be honest. However, I am willing to spend around €700 - €800.

When I'm on the home computer I usually have 2 Google Chrome's open with 5 website tabs in each, iTunes, Skype (need a webcam) and possibly [something else :)].

My ideal laptop would run these programs without crashing consistantly. I have been looking at this [gone].

Has anyone else used this, or similar makes / models??

    Any help appreciated,
    Thanks!

If you dont want your thread closed I'd remove the above reference. You know the one.

TBH thats very low spec. Each tab needs some ram, but with the exception of Facebook, Youtube and a few others they use practically nothing. I have two monitors which are usually full of chrome(AKA loads of tabs) and I'd be hard pressed to top 250MB I'd guess though I dont really monitor it.

I'd look for a 2-3GB Windows 7 Home 2GHZ Dual-Core. Shouldnt set you back too far and will last you a good while on those tasks.

The above link wasn't because of the colours, it was simply just a link showing what laptop I was referring to (unless there is another reason I shouldn't post that link that I'm not aware of).

Facebook and YouTube would be two of the sites that I would most certainly have open.

I'll have another look for a laptop with the specs you've mentioned, thanks!!

dont necessarily look at a sony though. They're usually a bit over priced

    *facepalm.

P2P sharing usually involves breach of copyright. As such boards dont like it being discussed.

I have a Dell at the moment, it's pretty decent. Whatever you do, don't by an Advent though! They're terrible! After less than two years, mine was completely dead and beyond repair (took it to several people - they couldn't fix it), and I had taken good care of it. I also know someone else who had the same problem. They're not well built.

Also, make sure you ask about battery life when you're buying! You'd want a least two hours, because it never actually lasts as long as they say. The Netbooks have much longer battery, but I think the screen is too small :P

I hear Sony, Toshiba and Dell are all pretty good; they're pricer but worth it.

    Didnt say link man.

I'd appreciate it if you left the moderating to us mods. Report a post if you feel the need.

Anyway, Limewire isn't illegal, nothing wrong with mentioning it in a post. We're not insane, mentioning "downloading" as part of your use of a laptop is hardly going to warrant any action from us. So long as you don't go linking to specific copyrighted material it's grand.

    Anyway, back on topic.
