Hi everyone, am new to boards. Basically our priest has told us that he cannot marry us as he is getting an operation the week of the wedding (in two weeks time), he is a lovely man and we are sorry he cant be there. He has organised another priest to stand in for him, our question is do we need to change the name on the marriage certificate from Fr X to Fr Y and if so how do we go about it.
We have checked gettingmarried.ie and a few other sites but we cant find an answer, we have also tried getting in touch with our local registrar but that seems to be impossible at this stage.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

Hi, As far as I can rem when we registered with the registrar, they said if the priest changes to go back to any of the offices and they will change the forms. You will have to have the name of the new priest on that form you've to bring to the church. I suggest keep phoning your local office until you get someone and try to do it over the phone or if you have to, call in, but I'd be inclined to go in and get it there and then. Hope it works out and enjoy your big day!

We were told that we could amend it on the day, if a proxy had to stand in for either our planned priest, or one of our witnesses. There's a bit on the form that everyone there has to sign to say it's kosher. I'd ring your registrar just to be 100% though.

Hi, just to let you know that i eventually got through to the registrar and we both had to go back in and bring the mrf with us and get the name on the certificate changed. Its done now and the woman told us if it needed to be changed again we'd both have to go back in again.
Thanks to everyone who replied :D
