I HATE 3-D films with a passion, but when i saw on wikipedia and imdb that theyre making the Ring 3-D , it sent chills down my spine! i mean, the classic tv scene, will be on cinema screen coming out at the audience!
I think itd be better if they re-released it in 3-D, rather the making another sequel or reboot...

This will be a disaster. Reading a quote from here about thow it's going to be 'teen-centric' sends chills down my spine in a very, very bad way. Considering how inferior the American remake was compared to the original Japanese Ring, and just how terrible the American sequel was, I have absolutely no hope for this venture.

As for the 'classic TV scene', one of my main criticisms of the remake was how badly they ****ed that particular scene up. Verbinksi's bigger/louder/more CGI ideals didn't fit with the claustrophobic atmosphere that the original had. I feel sad for anyone who saw the remake before the original film, because they've missed out of one of the most downright chilling scenes ever filmed. And I can only see the 3D gimmick weakening it further.

Ringu was by far more scary than remake, the fact that they pointed out things for the audience bemused me.
    Like when
She seen the tree or the lighthouse etc an image of the tree/lighthouse was shown
like we couldn't add these things together ourselves?

I still think the 3-D could be good if done well.

I'm one of the.....well, ones that actually preferred the american remake (-the 1st, not the 2nd-) to the Japanese originals. I just thought the J-versions weren't scary. Or enthralling. I loved just everything about the american remake, plot, photography, score, it was really beautiful to me. So i'm well behind another film. Although seeing how bad the sequel was, my expectations are in the toilet.

I do thing some stuff - like ur one crawling out of the screen/well could look great in 3D. I'd worry that it's the crap 3D and not Cameron's though.....

Not much point in basing an entire film around just that one aspect of the plot though is there?

The plot of the Ring films simply doesn't lend itself to 3D. It's more of a detective story with horror undertones. It's all about building up a subtle sense of dread over the course of the film. Stuff like My Bloody Valentine and Final Destination on the other hand are the perfect type of horror film for 3D.

I've always found the series is best enjoyed alone in the comfort of your own home, watching it with a group of people robs the film of much of its atmosphere.

3D would be wasted on the film, outside of the TV scene there really isn't anything in the franchise that would lend its self to 3D and I really don't wanna watch a Ring film in which frying pans are thrown at the audience.

You know, one thing I'll agree with you, is that the remake was beautiful. However, that's also another problem I had with it. It was too damn pretty. The original was dark, it was almost depressingly monochrome, low-key and dirty, and that worked for it. The direction the remake took was frankly what stripped away the atmosphere the original had, it was quite overblown, and such nonsense scenes like the horse on the ferry that seemed to be included just to put something a bit more fast-paced into the plot just served to kill the brooding pace.

The final scene was ruined in a similar way, where they transposed the scene from a cramped apartment to a very large area, and kept cutting back and forth between that and the frenzied Naomi Watts' character racing along in her car, obviously trying to make things a bit more fast-paced and exciting, but lacking what made the original scene so utterly chilling. The original stayed with one steady sequence that stays focused on what's happening within the apartment. It's slow, brooding and incredibly tense and doesn't cut away from that for a second.

Still, I do find that people who prefer the remake have seen that first, so I guess that the original just held no surprises for them and couldn't have the same impact.

By the way. Frolic in brine, goblins be thine...

Ahh, the continued redundancy of 3D. The Ring is one franchise that has proven unable to replicate the success of the original (artistically rather than commercially) despite many sequels. Even the Japanese sequel is way too convoluted and messy, although Ring 0 was interesting within a different sort of tone and atmosphere.

Anyway, don't see any need bar the inevitable "coming out the TV scene.... IN 3D!!!!!!!!" Also, isn't the central concept of a killer videotape a bit naff and redundant these days? It worked at the time, but they'll have to change it to make it seem modern, or stick with a period setting of the 1990s. Shall they update it to killer Blu-Ray disc?
