    Hi all,

recently I've been getting pain in the muscle in front of the shin bone..... not sure what the right name is.

It seems to hit in when I increase the pace. Mostly on my right leg but a little on my left also. It was there for a while to a minor extent but recently it has gotten much more intense.

The muscle seems to tighten up and is painfull to run on. It disappears soon after stopping and I have no pain later or the next day. My Kayano's are relatively new but broken in. Have had the gait analysis done and am only running about 15 miles a week. 5' 11" and approx 80kg.

Its really slowing me down. any ideas?

    Frogeye

it could be shin splints. i'm no fitness expert but a friend of mine had them. if you've started to do a good bit of training rather than building up slowly, having not done much for a while, that could be it. i think rest is the only cure.

I'd guess that it's your trainers. I had one pair of Asics that i trained for, and ran two marathons in, so i thought it was about time i retired them. The comfiest things ever, they were.

I went to Elverys and after hopping on the treadmill for their video analysis, i was recommended and bought a new pair (but a different model). With these though, i was getting shooting pain down the front of my shins after about 2miles. Only time healed the pain - initially stopping and stretching, and then running through the pain, helped. I guess some trainers take more running in, than others. They're now fine and I rarely get pain.

sorry we can't give medical type advice here. If it's bothering you best option is to go see a pro.
