I just bought a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium on it, and I've discovered that you don't get the free Virtual XP machine capability with it (it is possible to have something like it, but it's all manual).

So my question is, if I get the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade, will it work from my current set up ?

Yes you can, the hardware virtualisation requirement for Virtual PC was dropped recently so there should be no hardware issues. I'm not sure if the regular Windows 7 Pro Upgrade media works for a Home Premium upgrade, you may need the Windows Anytime Upgrade media but I'm sure someone on here will know for sure.

If that requirement was dropped then I won't need to upgrade....there's one way to find out ! I'll let you know how I get on.

You still need Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate though, you just don't need a processor with hardware assisted virtualisation (Intel VT or AMD-V) support anymore.
