photography with the humble mobile phone has always interested me - I'm eventually, a few years later, getting a few that I'm happy with courtesy of the iphone

The iphone might be great for a lot of things, but its camera is far from the best out there. Sony Ericsson have had far better camera phones than anything Apple can do.

Taken with with a SE Vivaz.

While I agree its handy to have a phone with a half decent camera, its never going to replace my beloved Canon DSLR, and I doubt mobile phone photography ever will reach the level of quality offered by even the cheapest SLR. Even the best phone camera out there equates to a low-mid range point and click.

Back onto topic, I'm missing the quality I got from my old Nokia N95 8GB, but my current iPhone isn't bad.

Thought I'd bump this rather than start a new thread. I just got the Hipstamatic app and love it. Of course shots from an acutal camera are much sharper and better in low light situations.

So I was wondering if there were any tutorials out there that would show me how to apply the same effects to pictures I took on my regular camera.

I'm using Gimp as I don't have access to PS.

I'd say getting a copy of lightroom and installing some presets is your best option.

You can download plugins for GIMP that try and give the photo a Lomo effect or whatever you like really , there are loads of different ones to choose from.

If anyone wants to add. Looks like a bit of fun. I have an app called Camera+ which has some snazzy filters. It saves the images pretty small sized though.

Straight off the phone, that B&W one is a filter called 'Ansel' - yeah, groan, I know. It gives a nice contrasty B&W though.

the retro camera app for android is very good too. Almost makes the really crappy camera on the hero workable.

I think the great thing about using a camera phone is that you're not trying to be perfectionist about it, like you might do with your dslr. You're just shooting for the fun, and with these apps it feels a bit like using an old crappy film cam, makes you feel a bit artsy :D

Some nice results in this thread.
