I'm looking to put on a rigid fork on my mtb, its a 22.5 inch frame and the current sus fork that is on it is about 29 inches. The fork must be compatible with v brakes.

    Thanks

I'm known to give a good rigid fork, size seems about right, 22.5 inches
but once I start V brakes won't stop it

but on a serious note you should look at either:

    suntour forks or
    rock shox

just bought me a GT XC2 from halfords 2 weeks ago, v v v happy with it, has suntour forks

Thanks for the tip but tbh I'm chucking the suntour shocks that are on the bike because the casing is rusting, I wouldn't go near suntour again as I found them far to weak for anything more demanding than light xc. The rock shocks on my trail bike are pretty good but I want to pick up a second hand rigid for road touring so they'd be quite inappropriate.
As for buying them from halifrauds....... don't get me started.

theres a few bits n pieces currently causing me heartache in the garage, among them the remnants of an old mtb, make "to be determined", any who, it has a rigid fork so the nxt time i trip over it i'll measure it up and post details ...................... is there anything specific your looking for? regardless of make most mtb are sold with suspension forks nowadays, are you looking for something like on a hybrid/city bike, or something a bit more robust?

Hey mcd79, that sounds pretty good. I'm turning my hack mtb into a tourer so I need to swop the sus fork (which is shot) for a rigid. I'm interested in anything that is structurally sound and cheap so if it fits I'll take it:)

alritey then, did a bit of investigating (not much tho!) the bike currently has 26" wheels on it, so the fork size should be about right for you (i'll do some dismantling tomorrow and get measurements for you) its attached to an old style quill stem which drops into a threaded headset which i can thro into the deal if your interested. i'll take a couple of snaps and upload them and see what you think.:D

I dont think that will fit my bike as it is attached to the handle bars via this kind of stem

and so the fork goes from axle all the way to the level of the handlebars. I may be misinterpreting your post though.

ah, nice stem, carbon face by the look of it, the fork/stem setup on my old mtb would mean that you wouldnt need your stem to connect to the handlebar. but im not sure that my old style quill stem would accomodate an oversized 31.5mm handlebar (which i would assume your proposing to use) i came accross a thread here somewhere where a user posed the problem of fitting a quill type stem to a newer mtb setup, ill dig it out and link it in.
also i know your looking for rigid fork setup, but i've a lovely suspension fork taken off a GT avalanche, very light use, never saw the off road, could let it go for a reasonable price if your interested i can post details and pic.

    Yes to everything:o
Except buying the sus fork, unless you want to part it for €30:D

(edit) I know what you mean about the stem adaptor but I'n not sure I'd be intrested in that tbh.

i'll let that sus fork go for 50euro, but u'd be twisting my arm :D
i suppose it would help if i put up a pic, i'll get around to it 2m evening for sure (i promise):)

Not sure what your price range is but these are great value for money:

Have used this guy about 5 or 6 times now through ebay and very good service, his english isn't the best but not muh to ask as all information is generally listed on the auction.
