Social Welfare can check if you are actually registered in college or not. If you are registered for a course, they will likely find out.

So basically if you tell them you aren't and they see you are you get the same penalties as anybody who commits welfare fraud which are according to welfare.ie "The majority of cases received fines, with the highest fine imposed being €4,200. Two people convicted of fraud for working while claiming Jobseekers payments were given suspended jail sentences and a further three were given the probation act."

    Also, I'd think you a d1ck

You'll be caught - could be next week, could be in a few months. When they check - and they definitely do check now more than ever - you'll be very easily stung. And when you're caught, fined, made pay back everything, and potentially facing jail, you'll deserve it.

Happened to a mate of mine last year. They caught him about a month before leaving college. He has to pay back €6k, but negotiated it down to just €10 a week. Pretty light punishment IMO.

he may have negotiated it down to €10 a week but he still has to pay the full 6k off I imagine...? plus is it likely to affect his chances of successfully applying for the dole in the future if he ever needs to apply for it again?
