ipod touch/itunes help, lost contacts

    hi all, I had been inserting all of my mobile phones contacts into my ipod touch. Lastnight , I downloaded the latest version of itunes and updated the ipod to software version 4. all of my contacts are no where to be seen, and its like the restore factory settings has been applied. all of the apps that I bought are still there but the registrations and passwords that I would have entered in for my gmail account/facebook and Outlook are all gone. I'm really annoyed as I spent weeks typing in my contacts from my Nokia and important calendar dates.
    Any help or advice please?
