    Hay all,

iv a quick question about an adjustment to my handicap that I just recieved after playing in todays comp.

I had a look on the CONGU website but im still confused.

My handicap is 24.0 and the CSS today was 68, I shot a 69 (93-24)

My club gave me .1 so now im 24.1 but i thought that because im within the buffer zone for a cat 4 player I dont get a .1 back???

I know its only .1 but I thought I understood the whole handicap/buffer zone etc as well as not wanting the .1.

Any help/advise would be much appreciated,

    Alan

If Standard scratch was 68 and you shot 69 then you shouldn't have been awarded a 0.1. Looks like a mistake.

Did you ring the club and find out what the story was?

    Similar question:

    Handicap 10
    Gross 85
    -1 for a clause 19 (7 on a par 4)
    Adjusted Gross 84
    SSS 72 CSS 72
    Nett Differential 2

Should I get .1 here or does some form of categorisation kick-in?

What are the categories and their effect?

    Thanks

What index was the Par 4 you had a 7 on?

You're within the buffer for your category with a nett differential of 2.
Category 1 (plus golfers up to 5 handicappers) has buffer 0 to +1 so Nett differential of 0 or 1
    Category 2 (6 to 12 handicappers) is 0 to +2
    Category 3 (13 to 20 handicappers) is 0 to +3
    Category 4 (21 to 28) is 0 to +4

Nett differential is the difference between your adjusted gross and the CSS for the day.
If you are within the buffer zone there's no change to your handicap.
Outside the buffer in all categories and you go up by 0.1 (regardless of how bad you score).
A negative nett differential means you beat the CSS and you get cut, again amounts that you get cut vary based on what category.. all explained in the link.

How is the gross and net differential calculated in stableford.

    Let's say you're a 10 handicapper.
    You score 37 points.
The CSS (competition Scratch Score) for the day was 35 points (1 over par, might be written as 73. Sometimes you'll see strokes and sometimes you'll see points used. Par was 72).
Your gross score was 27 points (the points you would have scored as a scratch golfer).
    The Gross differential is 35 - 27 = 8
    Nett Differential then is -2

Thanks. New to competions trying to get my head around it all.
    Would this then be right.
To lower your handicap you would need to score
    37 pts on sss 72
    38 pts on sss 70
39 pts on sss 68 etc.

Is css only calculated once all scores are in and if they are fairly high the css would be adjusted downwards ?
