Was in Tescos (Lisburn) the other day and noticed Freeview HD boxes on the shelves at £100. Since HD here in NI will not be available until DSO (2012) wonder why these boxes are being sold here now? Is it for those in Co. Down who can pick up HD from Caldbeck or is it in anticipation of DSO? Also am I right in saying that these boxes will pick up RTE DTT tests (picture as well as audio) clearly?

They will work in NI, just no HD. Nice for feeding TVs with HDMI.

Yes, these should do at least picture & sound.

It's not beyond possibility that they will turn up in Irish Tescos. After all they have plenty of DAB radios in places with no DAB and also Freeview TVs. Though in last month or so they have put up warning notices.

Quite likely they will turn up in Irish Tescos Watty with the usual currency plus markup.

Will make a happy change from the mpeg2 gear that they have continued to stock.

Hopefully Maplin will also start stocking it and do away with what they have been doing likewise, including Freeview SD Mpeg2 Boxes!

    Tesco are also selling this:
Panasonic TX-P42G20B 42" HDR TV 1080p 600Hz Plasma with built in Freeview HD & Freesat HD for £899.

Do not know how compatible it is, but sounds a good price.

Reports are that it is fully compatible with Irish DTT and that is a great price for a 42" freesat TV. Panny plasmas are the among best TV's out there.

Report on another forum indicates Maplin (Boucher Road, Belfast) are stocking them.

Amazon have it for £833 inc UK delivery and 5year waranty. Dixons might be cheaper.

These boxes will be suitable for Caldbeck HD (on-air now), Cambret Hill HD (on-air October), Darvel HD (next year), Irish DTT and Welsh HD (on-air now.) As I posted elsewhere the new Divis DSO mast is now going up quite quickly...

Just to report I was in Maplins (Boucher Road, Belfast) today but no sign of any Freeview HD boxes just boxes marked with HDMI capability. Asked a member of staff and they didn't know of any there either but he directed me to Maplins website.

HDMI doesn't mean HD. People have been caught on DVD and Sat boxs from well known supermarkets on that one.

G20 Panasonic Plasma reportedly OK but they also have a V20 plasma and yet another xx20 type plasme model out there that are not confirmed as working down here with current firmware, be careful with Pannys.
