Luas in Rosslare

So, I drove into Rosslare Harbour this afternoon and what do I see in front of me by the Railway station but a nice shiny new LUAS. I suppose it had just been delivered. It was on a strange looking frame/carriage/trailer type thingy. The things you see when you haven't got your gun camera!

My question is does this thing go on the train line to Dublin pulled by an engine or does it go by road pulled by a truck?

Usually goes to Dublin late at night pulled by a lorry up the N11. I've passed it a few times late on Sunday night. Its usually a fairly big affair.

Cant go via rail- the gauge of the railways are different to the luas.

Accepted. But, if you read my post you'll see I said it was on a carriage type apparatus. It had both rail wheels and road wheels.

That is probably luas gauge also- to assist in loading it onto the track when it gets there.

No freight of any kind, not even a CIE weekly circular, leaves the RAILWAY owned port by rail - let alone Luas trams. How many new cars have been imported through Rosslare every year for how many decades and not one has ever been shipped by rail............:rolleyes::rolleyes:

It is much cheaper to bring it by road because Irish rail were no good at transporting freight when the did offer freight services. And it probably gets to the red cow and goes by Luas tracks from there?

ironic really when its not so many years ago that the only way to get a car TO rosslare port was by rail.....(or sea)

Should be - there's more 5000's coming along to allow the Cherrywood extension operate and then I believe even more 5000's so they can put more 4000-class ones on to the Red line for the Citywest extension.
