    Hi all

I am looking to get a pair of hill walking shoes (preferably not boots). I only do a small bit of walking but don't really have any suitable footwear. What would be the best brand to look?

    THanks

I would advise boots as they protect your ankle and give gr8 support - meindl are one of the top boots tho some are heavy they are great for the out doors,
How ever if you want to use shoes then merrell i think are best, you can get them in most outdoor shops + even places like schuh sell them, i had my pair for over 6 year and got gr8 use out of them. Never let me down at all. And even now they are worn out and in bits i could still use them if needed - that well made!

Yeah, merrell are great but if you're venturing into the hills a pair of boots would be better and not much more expensive. Merrell do boots too afaik.

I just got a new pair of boots from this crowd: http://www.outdooradventurestore.ie/ if you spend more than €50 the shipping is free and they came the next day. They were priced far cheaper than the same pair in Castlebar. They do boots/shoes and allsorts.

for hill walking you can't beat a good pair of boots. if it is the weight issue don't freit. my boots are light as a pair of runners and fit like a glove. and ony cost 70 euro. considering my old pair of gortex were 200 euro they last 8 years. so a good investment. ankle support is so important especially if you tackle a mountain alone.

I have a great pair of hiking runners. Picked them up in 53 degrees in Carrickmines. can't remember the brand off hand though.

Don't provide the same amount of ankle support as boots but and not as water tight but are great for walking on tracks and running around the hills.
