Pitch invasions and the GAA

Once again the hallowed turf has been infected by a pitch invasion. Whether it is grown 50 year old men skipping gleefully like a little girl towards their favourite county star whom they worship, or to throw a dirty shoulder on the ref after a dodgy decision, should the Gaa try again to stop pitch invasions or leave it the way it is cos if you try to cage the people thats when the serious injuries start .

None of the above. Part of the crowd were incensed due to the Meath goal which shouldn't have been given. If there was a video ref, such as in Rugby, the goal wouldn't have been given and no trouble would have started. Everyone would be better off.

did the stewards not lift up those waste of time, orange eye sore plastic netting

I'm for it myself. It also used to happen in Rugby and still may at college level.

Fupping disgrace. Was a quality try though.

Where was the Guards? One escorting the ref off the field

Cant help but think if it was soccer the battons would be cracking skulls at the first sign of trouble.

One of the fellas on the pitch was from the village where I live.. a right fcukin idiot he is too.

Disgraceful to see such behavior in modern day sports. The GAA are as much to blame as the planks who attacked the ref. People are always gonna show their frustration after being robbed by a poor decision and then allowed on to the field of play right afterwards

Im sure the GAA and their minions in the media will try and dress it up as "passion"

I feel bad for them but the county should be given a replay and a very large fine. Gotta feel for the ref, he was only going by what his umpires told him. As for the cop's. to busy counting there over time money. I worked as a steward in there for years and had to deal with so many drunk supporters while they stood beside us watching. many times it got out of hand and they would not step in until you asked

    Sorry, but what happened?.

I'm from Louth. Watched the match. Was so excited until the end. That goal went in and broke my heart. There should definitely be video evidence. I'm fed up of my teams getting robbed! (I had Ghana to beat Uruguay in the world cup!). Must say it's a disgrace to see those fans allowed onto the pitch. Scum bags. You would never see this behavior from fans here in Berlin.

Honestly I think it might be good for the GAA in the long run that this happened live on television. This kind of behaviour and attacks on referees has been going on for some time in club football but gets swept under the carpet, now the GAA have to acknowledge and deal with it.

The few mindless thugs at the end soured the name of the vast majority of sound Louth fans. I was rooting for Louth today but after that (and the booing of Meath free's) it left a sour taste in my mouth.

The worst thing is those mindless eejits just took away the spotlight from the controversial goal after those antics...

Yeah it's crap he gave the goal (not a GAA fan mysel, dunno what the fcuk is going on) but under no circumstances should "fans" attack the ref like that or run onto the pitch. Bunch of scummers.

Huge GAA fan and croke Park Regular, would love to know what the 50 or so Gardaí who surround the pitch where thinking after the first attack on the Ref

The decision was poor and the lack of consultation with the Umpire was criminal

No excuse for the crowds behaviour but the Fuzz and the stewards have allot to answer for!

Awesome, caught on camera and all. Now, lets see those retards get done for it please.

As for the goal, another example of the need for a video ref. Should be interesting to see what the GAA do about it though.

Looking at the poor broadcast quality of this game by RTE2 (no widescreen support in 2010??!) i doubt the funds will ever be there. Watching GAA on RTE is like watching football in the 1970s....

TBH I wouldnt blame the ref, he couldnt see what happened. The real culprits here are the 2 umpires who couldnt possibly have missed it and didnt have the balls to disallow the goal.
No excuse for attacking the ref afterwards but it was the GAA's equivalent of the Thierry Henry handball moment.
The Guards should have protected the ref better after the game too.
Feel really sorry for Louth they deserved to win.
