booted up my pc yesterday ,it booted up to the windows logo screen ,the mouse pointer appear and i get this message run dll and in a message box could not find nvsvc.dll .It then just hangs there black screen mouse pointer on the middle of the screen and movable .

Now i'm pretty savvy myself . I know its a graphics issue and I have most of my pc's configured as dual boots in case I have to go in and repair them .

The file is there most likely corrupt or registry is corrupt. I'm trying to find that file on the net to replace it and having no luck.

    other points ,
Won't boot into safe mode ,No restore points saved :(.

The only thing I can think of is a repair ,but how is that going to affect my pc ?.

Thanks in anticipation of your responses.

that file is part of nvidia drivers package so if you download and decompress you should be able to copy it across.. what OS are you dual booting with and have you tried vga mode?

Bit surprised, this is a nvidia file. Did not know it was a core file to be used to run monitor. I think this just checks for updates from what I remember.... (Had the same issue) I turned it off as I found it in the registry. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

But if you are then getting a black screen.....

Oh and usually it is in the system32 folder.

This sounds pretty good to me. You could boot to Recovery console and overwrite the bad file with a good copy.

Alternatively, if you are computer savvy, you could boot XP with a different video card (possibly onboard or spare video card) and remove the NVidia drivers..

nvsvc.dll is a Graphics Library\ from NVIDIA Corporation\ belonging to NVIDIA Driver Service\

    You might get nvsvc.dll from

    http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/nvsvc/233632/

    Or Here

    http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/dlllibrary/nvsvc/

Think it belongs in the c:\windows\sysyem32 folder

Yeah, I'm not sure about this. Safe Mode is meant to load a basic generic driver for the VGA, but for some reason it seems to load up the driver that you have installed... which is no good if you are trying to sort out a VGA driver issue obviously.. Maybe somebody else can explain this..

That's partially the reason why I suggested adding a second graphics card or booting to onboard graphics (if available). You will find out pretty quickly if the issue you are having is singularly being caused by the nVidia driver. You should also be able to remove all the nVidia software, reboot and reinstall.

If you get to the command prompt option, you should be able to remove the problem file.

    other options:
    i) You could also boot to the Ultimate Boot CD, http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
and boot to the tool that allows you to access to the filesystem.

ii) Set the disk up as a slave hard drive in another PC. This will also give you access to the file system.

Thanks Jon ,great advice was the road I was going down. I have access to the file system as its configured as a dual boot. Its deffo not H/W as it works fine in xp .What I need now is a replica file to put in the system32 folder. Once I can see the screen I can update the driver .

It would appear to me that the vga driver is loading as the mouse pointer icon is big on a black screen .I can solve most problems but this one is weird

Back up the truck there for a second.. What have you done since the last posting..

If you can see the screen, try Ctrl-Al-Delete and then File | New Task and run Control.exe... This will bring up control panel (well, I think it's the same for Vista, I'm running XP)... Once in Control Panel, remove the VGA card and reboot.. hopefully it should reinstall it when you reboot.

    Thanks Jon,
I tried that didn't work the message is actually a run dll, invalid access to memory location .The screen doesn't come up just black with the mouse pointer .

I'm going to try and get a vga video card of an old PC.I'm going up to the recycling facility so i'm going to get one there .I need to get into the pc and fix the registry.
