In the UK version of Deal or No Deal, how does the banker arrive at his figure for buying the contestant's box? Is it something simple like half the average, or is there a complicated formula? Or is it just a made up number based on what he thinks will make the choice difficult for the contestant?

He seems to pull it out of his head. Usually when theres about 8 boxes left the figure is generally half the second highest value box but sometimes he can be really mean. There is no set logic in it i think

It also seems to depend on what kind of person is playing the game as well. An arrogant/confident person seems to get a lower offer, just so they would continue playing.

whatever he deems a good offer?
