Hang on, am I the only guy to not like Razor Ramon?

Just on [another site, I won't plug it!] there, and everybody loves Razor. I never got into him at all. I don't know if i didn't like his moveset, or his character, maybe he was too arrogant in a reserved kind of way.....i dunno, I didn't like Diesel either (although I loved Shawn).

I'd say that I didn't like how it felt like he didn't care about wrestling at all -- but that's probably stemming from his promos in WCW & shoot interviews in the 2000s....

    So, did/does everybody love Razor?

I really liked him as a kid watching WWF. I totally bought into his character and he had some really good matches that I vividly remember.

agree Razor was awesome. Loved his signature move and his character presence. He also had some memorable fights as well if I remember rightly.

I'm with you here. Never liked him. The in ring work that I saw never impressed me and I think he doesn't come across as the most professional guy in the world.

I'm indifferent really but it's in retrospect. I knew him as Scott Hall first and he was one of the few guys better off in WCW.

All I can really recall is the Ramon/HBK ladder match, Fake Razor, The Rock making fun of him and the Razor's Edge. Plus I don't like crucifix powerbombs. They have zero impact to my eye.

Scott Hall was at his absolute best when he was Razor Ramon. He had some excellent matches and feuds during that time and had a great character.

Once he went to WCW it all went downhill and he never recovered, but he was one of my favourites when he was in WWF. Even managed to get a series of decent matches with Kevin Nash/Diesel. Not many have managed that.

Never liked him. One guy that got very lucky due to politics backstage.

edit: @jkhunter, Terry is still a mod here and a big Hall fan, be carefull!! :)

I never found him or Kevin Nash entertaining. I always thought of them as the old guys that old people care about.

When did you start watching wrestling?

That's mental. On the podcast you sound like you've been watching for 20 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,082 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

    That'd explain it so.

Try watch his WWF work as Razor Ramon. He was really good back then.

I think i just don't the way he holds himself, it just seems like he doesn't care and is just in it for himself. But for some reason I didn't think that was cool. I dunno, maybe i just didn't identify with the character. Maybe it's that he's a nonchalant heel but is face.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,082 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

    He wasn't face at first.

He was full heel for at least a year.

You were 10 years too late in seeing him at his peak.

Obviously as time went by in WCW his professionalism was questionable and that's putting it nicely.

In the WWF, with the right wrestler he could have very good matches and for that era, his character was cool and edgy for the New Generation PG era.

Whenever I hear him speak when he's not tanked up with alcohol 2 things come across; 1. He's a very clever guy and 2. He still thinks it's 1997 and over estimated his importance to wrestling in 2010.

'The Bad Guy' Razor Ramon, legend loved him as a kid, loved the toothpick and the entrance music. He had some great matches like both ladder matches with HBK, KotR with Bret and even with IRS when he stole his gold. I loved the Razors Edge and Fall Away Slam

'Ricky the dragon steambolt' was the best.

hall was a good worker, his razor character was great (better as heel than face but there you go), i enjoyed his run in wwf between 92-96 and then the shorter run in wcw from the summer of 96 onwards until his life off camera turned him into a mess

Never seen him as Razor Ramon, but as Scott Hall in TNA he was awesome.

As a kid, I really liked the way his punches looked too.

I loved him growing up, loved the tag-team then rivalry with 123-kid.

I remember being desperate for him to win the 2nd ladder match at Summerslam with HBK, which is odd cos HBK is my favourite of all time, i think even then though i hated the overwhelming fan-favourite as i still do now! I can recall even being happy when Sid took the title from him in my youth at one stage

Check out Ramon's PPV debut tagging with Flair against Mr Perfect and Randy Savage. Bret Hart vs. Ramon and both Royal Rumble 93 and King of the Ring 93. The ladder matches* of course. There was a HBK/Ramon match on Monday Night Raw around July '94 that I remember being alrightish. I even remember liking a WrestleMania match he had with Bob Backlund.

I hated his Jeff Jarrett fued in 95, it just felt like it went on forever!

Ramon vs Goldust at Royal Rumble 96 I remember being good.

Another worthy mention is SummerSlam 94 against Diesel but I can't remember it too well. I'm a blank on his WCW stuff as I didn't have satellite for Nitro though I remember we somehow had Bravo/TNT during the summer of 96 and I got to see the arrival of The Outsiders.

*I've only seen the Goldberg tazer match on a crap quality video on Daily Motion so I didn't watch it through...

Yeah me too. He had a unique way of wildly swinging the punches/slaps and then did a sort of 360' spin to finish of the tripartite.

Also this is coming out soon....

Razor Ramon was what got me into wrestling. First match I saw was on Sky Sports and it was the famous ladder match, and since that I just marked out huge for Razor Ramon and got massively annoyed at WWF for their fake Scott Hall. Didn't see a lot of him in WCW regrettably (really wish we had t'internet like we have today back then). And then once again I went absolutely spare when he came back to WWE with the nWo.

It's sad seeing him in TNA today (well upto last month ago) because I hate him píssing on his name like he's doing with all his "demons".

Anyways, I love Razor/Hall, and always picked him in games/created him if he wasn't there. Huge fan.
