I don't think that this model of turbo trainer connects to a computer at all. I've got a similar model ( hydromag) and its purely mechanical ( ie no electronics involved and no way to connect it to a computer). Maybe you are mistaking the model that you have ordered ( or maybe I'm mixing them up, the link in a previous post isn't working, appologies if this is the case)?

The turbos I've seen that connect to a computer are significantly more expensive. I use my turbo trainer in conjunction with a heart rate monitor. I find that my heart rate and increasing and decreasing the resistance is enough to control my workout effectively . Having said that I'm sure some of the people on here who are into racing may say that you are better off with a system that'll give you a read out of your power output in watts that you can track on a computer program. I'd recommend just getting out on the road as much as you can and when the weather is truly ****e using the turbo as a backup. No expensive computer analysis needed, unless you are at a very high level and every little advantage counts.

no electronics on that model just a plain and simple but very effective mechanical trainer.

    Hi,

I'm thinking of getting one of these...just wondering if its the kind of unit I can bring in a suitcase when travelling? Anyone know how heavy it is and what kind of space requirements it would have in a suitcase/travel bag?

Basically I want to get it delivered to Ireland and take it to Canada.
    The alternative would be http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Cycling/BikeTrainers/PRD~5026-727/elite-fluid-alu-trainer.jsp
but when you add 12% tax to the mec.ca option, the Elite trainer for sale on wiggle is actually cheaper (and maybe better?).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Sean

way too heavy for a suitcase...they weigh close to 20kg ....I suppose it could go on its own. Why not buy in Canada?

It's looking like I'll end up buying in Canada, but generally sports equipment is more expensive over here and I'll be home for Christmas anyway so going to pick up as much stuff as I can.
If I buy in Canada it will be the Elite in the link there from a company called MEC but you also have to add 12% tax to the price.

Ya, I just had a look there and there is a a crono fluid primo trainer for $200US, prob have to add tax to that also but its approx the same price, with less hassle.
It also says in the product description the weight and package size details, it weights 23.2lbs which is ok for transport in a seperate suitcase....I'll just have to decide sometime this week I guess, but its possibly one of those '6 in one, 1/2 a dozen in the other' situations.
    Cheers for the input anyway...

Have one for 2 years now and no problem with it at all, its heavy though so putting in a suitcase would be nuts in my opinion!
But wiggle have a good price though so roll with them I would say.

Trawling old boards for Turbo related stuff and cam across this. See that this model is being sold at a good price on wiggle

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-crono-fluid-elastogel-trainer/

There are loads of reviews, mainly very positive but the odd negative one as well. Which leads to some questions if there are any owners of them.

The odd user complains about it leaning a bit to one side, is this just a setup issue for the users in question or a general problem with them ?

Poster here mentions "nearly 20kg" for weight but I've seen under 10kg elsewhere. Couldn't find exact weight, anybody know ?

Increased power comes from wheel speed so unlike magnetic trainers you will not simulate climbing well. Get that and ok with it. The odd person complains about not enough resistance. Was looking online to see what speeds generate what wattage but couldn't find anything. For example other trainers tell you that at 40km/h you generate 400W. Has anybody (with a PM obviously) any figures for this trainer ? And if you do if you could give them as Watts/KG too as output depends on your weight.

    Thanks

Got an email from Ribble today on specials they're doing on turbos and they seem pretty good. See http://secure.campaigner.com/Campaigner/Public/t.show?5xp0l--33cqe-ixo3fy6&_v=2 Best price I've seen on a tacx VR for awhile, though to be fair I haven't looked much since buying mine. I've been finding Ribble competitive with the Germans lately, and they're one of the first sites I check these days.
