Thinking of emigrating

I am a Civil Engineer with in excess of 10 years experience and was laid off last week. My background is mainly road design and RE work. I had been expecting to be laid off for the last few months so no big surprise there. I figure the only option open to me now is to emigrate as there is pretty much nothing happening here. Was thinking of the following countries - UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Middle East. Anyone out there with any opinions on those locations? There is a thread on NZ so no need to give a comment there. I sent off a few applications for jobs in the UK but no joy there to date which is slightly worrying. I am considering moving to London to see whats actually happening on the ground and take it from there.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey mate,

sorry to hear of recent job loss. Apperantly Canada are going through some kind of boom. Heard recently they open the boarders to the Polish so must be good construction there at the mo.

Hope all goes well with your planned move :))
