Displaying Art in the Liffey Trust Centre

    Hi All,

I am posting this tread to try and get some help on a idea. I am currently working in the Liffey Trust Centre in D1 near the O2 arena (for more information on the Liffey Trust visit www.liffeytrust.ie) . We have a wonderful big market area adjacent to the bar the Green Room Bar www.thegreenroombar.ie which we feel is lacking some life.

The bar and the Red Room has wonderful colours and we would like to liven up the market area with paintings and art work displayed.

The Art work and Artist would display there work there price etc. to a large number of people as the bar has a large footfall especially on O2 concerts nights. We also have up to 200 grids on the roof and were thinking of a mural on the roof.

I have tried in vain to contact the Director of the National College of Art and Design on Thomas Street to try and arrange for him to come down and see the place. (So anyone who could help on that would be great).

Anyone with any ideas can reply to this tread or PM

    why limit it to NCAD?

there's a host of other art/design colleges in dublin.

but why limit the opportunity to artists/students from dublin?

there's a heap of up and coming young artists emerging from colleges all around the country who's eat the hand off this kind of exposure!!!!

I am not limiting it to the national Art college it was just my first taught. If you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated I would like to get moving on this. Maybe an open day and people could come down show us their work and we would display as many as we could.

If anyone reading this would be interested you could PM me and if I get enough I will arrange a date

    Thxs for the reply

It's a great idea and I'll spread the word. Have you thought much about which type of work you are looking for?

The open day would be a SERIOUS non runner in my opinion. Basically you're asking a bunch of artists to all travel at their own expense for the chance to display their work when their work might be completely unsuitable, sub par. their work could potentially get lost in transport or damaged, which is a risk everyone takes, but only for the CHANCE their work would be displayed? most would only take that chance once they've been confirmed as being included. you'll also have to deal with saying no to peoples faces when they could have potential travelled from far away just to display work. In my honest opinion, few would make the trip considering all of this.

Set it up as a open submission via email or post. ask artists to submit an artists cv and statement along with max 5 images ect... make it attractive by letting the items be for sale and that you will not charge commission. set a deadline for submissions. If you can help transport work you'll make it even more attractive, I don't know whats available to you.

Approach ALL art colleges, not just dublin ones.

put up your open submission call on http://visualartists.ie/, this will reach more artists then just this forum.

From working recently in a newly formed gallery I can tell you even with the connections to artists from the staff, its like pulling teeth getting submissions.
