I haven't been in yet, but there is a new tea shop opened on McCurtain St. in Cork.
That's two now - also Gurman's, Fenns Quay.

Must check it out - I think they sell coffee too but if it is anything like Gurman's then I won't be buying beans there.
They're all stored in glass jars - can't be fresh - and way too many varieties!

Where is Fenns Quay? Im heading down tomorrow for a look(professionaly not just a spin) and cannot find it on Google earth.

Where abouts on McCurtain Street is the new one?

Fenns Quay is here. Google Maps has a fair few errors when it comes to the city centre.

I was in the Coffee & Tea Emporium on McCurtain Street today and it is run by a nice girl from the Czezh Republic.

All the Coffee and loose tea are in Jars and they sell them by the 50g and 100g. A 100g comes in around €5.40 or so.

Big issue I see, although a very nice place, is the freshness of the Coffee and Tea in those large jars.

Otherwise it is definately worth the visit if not just for the aromas.

That certainty would be an issue for me regarding the coffee - I didn't know tea was so critical.

Light and air will erode their freshness and without an air tight container they will "go off" quicker.

Smaller jars would have been an idea.

    It's just like coffee, then!

Not quite. Oxygen & Bacteria are much worse for Coffee than for Tea. I learned this recently.

    ^Funny story?

What did you pick up at the shop? Any good?

Quite the opposite. I was trying to sell my products. However If I was going to pick up anything it would have been the Pistachio Coffee and possibly the Orange and Raspberry Loose Tea.

Oh right! What do you sell? (If you won't get in trouble for saying)

I definitely prefer to see tea in tins over glass jars, and ideally each tea having a small sample tin so that the main batch is only exposed if someone is actually buying it. I think minimising exposure to the air is especially important if you're doing flavoured coffee beans in the same shop. I've had tea from shops that do both and sometimes the tea has picked up those flavours.

I can see the appeal of glass jars because asthetically loose leaf tea is really nice to look at and smell but the longevity of the product is paramount and currently, only being opened two weeks, the product will not last.

I reported my own post on account it might be advertising. I would imagine a moderator came in and removed everything "controversial".

Sorry Berty - I did get your reported post. Thank you. :)

As I also saw that FTGFOP saw the pic of your sig I removed it as it wasn't relevant to the thread any more. (You could just have PM'd the links.)

    Take care,
