Plumbing problems with wastes :(

    Hey,

I've a few issues with the current setup that was put into our house :/ I'm hoping I can solve some of the problems myself (with you guys' help of course ;) ) as our guy doesnt seem to give a rats arse :/

I've 2 problems for the time being.. the first is in our util room..

The washing machine is hooked up to the same waste pipe as the sink.. first off looking into it, this doesnt seem normal practice, its normally 1 for the washing machine and 1 for the sink, completely seperate?
Anyhow, the problem is when the washing machine is on, it comes up the util sink, if the stopper is in, it comes in the overflow in the sink.. I've attached a pic of what it looks like underneath.. is there anything I can do at this stage?

IMAG0010.jpg is the pic of the waste for this

Now, the second problem, we've a double corner sink in our kitchen that came with waste fittings (IMAG0014.jpg) but he couldnt get them working as they should so he replaced them with whats in image IMAG0012.jpg ...

Now this is a similar problem, as in both sinks use the same outlet, but he has u bends (or ptraps or whatever?) on both before they merge.
The corner sinks drain VERY slow and if you fill up a sink and let it out, the water goes into the other sink... then both take ages to drain

in Image0014.jpg there are few white bits, can anyone tell me what they're for? I'm hoping I can use the original stuff myself and install it properly :/

I've really desperate for help :( I'm going mad :/

    Thanks

    Balmark

Oh in the kitchen, it looks like the dish washer is joining the sink waste just below where you see in the pic .. like

     I
     I (dish washer in)
     | (sinks in)
     | |
     | |
     |_______________|________(out)

and now the dishwasher is pushing water up the sinks :/

I have a dishwasher and a washing machine emptying into the waste under the sink without a problem, but if you look at the picture you will see that they are not directly under the sink, but are offset slightly. This could be your problem.

Honestly. There is nothing wrong with the first set up...ie where the washing machine goes into the trap. This is perfectly fine.

The second set up, i dont know why its backing up to be honest. if it were me I would have tried it this way and then if it did not work I would redo it useing non retun waste valves.

It is messy and tbh the grey pipe is a pain for plumbers to deal with.

I am guessing its the sink on the right of the picture that the water backs up in. I would change the bath trap that has been used for a P trap which would make it work a little better.

Does the pipe from the sink have 1/4" per foot gradient?

If that setup is backing up its because of either the wrong falls/gradients on the pipes out of view or buried . Or else pipes are partially blocked .

Have you lifted the manhole covers outside to ensure there is defo no blockage in that direction ??
You could run the sink and check and manholes to see what the flow is like out there

I agree with Outkast. Its either not enough fall on the pipes, but more likely I suspect is that you have a partial blockage outside of the sinks where the pipes carry on. that'll be whats causing the backup imo
