Has anyone ever, or does anyone know about how you go about ordering a new Volkswagen and being able to collect it yourself from Autostadt in Wolfsburg, Germany?
How would the registration/tax/insurance work? Would you have to register it in Germany first and then over here when you got back? Or could you register it here and bring the plates with you when collecting it? I know if your a German collecting your car you have to bring your registration plates with you when collecting it

...you can order and collect, as there is a temporary export German registration that you can get, to allow you to drive it in Germany.:)

If you're buying it through a dealer here, can't he arrange it ? Irish reg, even ?

You can get temporary cover from your existing cover, and you won't need tax, to get it home.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I think you would get a better knowledge on a vw specialist forum such as vagdriver.net or vwvortex.com.

Galwaytt is right, easiest way to do it, would be to register the car on german export plates, they are valid for up to seven days, and are actually not that expensive.

I think its 120-150€ including tax and insurance. Go for it, sounds like a great idea!

BMW motorcycles use to do a package that included a visit to the factory where you could see the final stages of assembly of your motorcycle before you take it away.

Would be a really nice way to collect a new car.

If you do go, give yourself an extra day at the Autostadt. Factory tour is a must, really interesting :)
