NCT failed center brake light built into Hella rear spoiler on MK3 Golf. (Lamp unit is badly corroded and would need reploacement)

Was this spoiler originally an accessory to these cars?, in otherwords could the spoiler be removed altogether for the re test?

I doubt it, seen as it's the item that needs re-testing, but worth a try if its only a visual retest. Should have removed it before the test, but hindsight is a wonderful thing

Unless the 3rd brake light is original equipment, it does not have to work, afaik.

AFAIK all red lights fitted to the rear have to work.

IE if you have 2, then the 2 have to work - or if you have an additional one in the back window or on the spoiler etc, this needs to work too.

See Section 26 (page 43) of the NCT Manual
    2. Additional stop lamps (other than those fitted by the vehicle manufacturer) are not part of the test.

Passed in retest, contacts were badly corroded with only 4 of the small bulbs working. :)

    Cheers
