    Hey folks

I got rearended yesterday sitting at a traffic lights by a guy in a little polish reg fiat. Car is a write off and shoulder is banged up. Gards were called etc and swapped details.

Called quinn-direct to inform then but the thing is he was insured through an insurance company back home. some crowd called HDI?

Does anyone have any experence ith this insurance company? Quinn-direct said they never heard of them. What options would I have?

    thanks

yea thats seams the one alright.. suppose main problem is that quinn also said after I just called them back was that they cant give me a cover car that I would have to wait until HDi sort this and that could be up to 3 weeks!!!

    So.
HDI is a insurance company providing covers in Poland.
Of course you are free to contact them to make a claim directly, but there's two problems with this.

    1. I assume you don't speak polish and this can be a problem here - not 100% sure, because HDI in Poland might have a English speaking customer care, but it's only up to their good will.

    2. There are different regulations in Poland, and insurance company is not allowed to decide at whose fault the accident occured. They would need statement from Police saying it was this guy's fault. Or they would need statement from this guy, stating it was his fault. In Ireland Guards, don't write that statements about fault, because they don't seem to be allowed to do this. So unless the guy would actually say it was his fault, you won't get anything. So make sure he admits he caused an accident, because otherwise you would need to go to court.

    HDI website is here: http://www.hdi.pl/
Contact details on the bottom left including phone number.

But there's another - much easier solution.

Considering these two problems you should do what every Irish person should do after having accident with foreign registered car. Just contact MIBI. They are the association which deals with accidents caused by uninsured cars, unidentified cars and foreign registered cars.
    Check this website: http://www.mibi.ie/foreign-vehicles.html

BTW - contacting your insurance company is nonsence, as they have nothing to do with it. The claim has to made against policy of the guy who caused an accident. And MIBI are gonna take care of this.

    Hope this helps.

Count yourself lucky that you got the guy in question

Brother in law went to dun laoirghe last sunday for a walk on the pier.
Came back to find the entire side of his A3 in shíte.
Old lad comes over and told him he say the lad do it, get out and look at it and drive off!!
He got his number plate, so the bro in law goes to the garda who call round to your man who guess what..........denys it!!
He's a polish lad driving a polish reg car which has lovely fresh blue paint on the front of it!!
The garda have told him they are giving him a few days to understand that making a false declaration is against the law, then they are coming back to him....meanwhile the bro in law is looking at 2 grand of a bill to repair his own motor!!

    Sounds a bit incredible.
How Garda could find a contact to the Polish lad driving Polish reg. car so easily.
AFAIK foreign registered cars can be driven only by tourists, not by someone who lives in Ireland.
If he was a tourist how would they find him so fast?
If he wasn't why they didn't impound his car for not registering it in Ireland and paying VRT?
The garda have told him they are giving him a few days to understand that making a false declaration is against the law, then they are coming back to him....meanwhile the bro in law is looking at 2 grand of a bill to repair his own motor!!

What thay should do staight away is to match the damage on your frinds A3 and the Polish lad's car. Then with this proof go to court. Your friend would get money to fix his A3 from insurance company of the Polish lad, and Polish lad would get prosecuted for making false statements

Has CINIO said above contact the MIBI , theres no point in contacting his insurance company as they will be speaking in Polish.

The fact the Garda were called and details were exchanged is good as there should be no issue with liability and your claim should be sorted.
