Replacing/adding internal DVD drive

I got some new drum software for my comp yesterday, tried to load it onto the comp to install it but the dvd drive was having none of it, it tried to load the data with the lil' cd symbol popping up for a second but to no avail

the drive itself has been a bit dodgy during playback of some dvd/cd media, but its not completly awol, it does load cdr's and some other stuff, but just not some dvds... no driver issues or anything it seems

any issues around this or i should try, or is the drive just crapped out? about 4-5 years old at that...

anyways there is an expansion bay on the desktop and space for another dvd drive and i was just going to add an internal dvd drive so... is there anything in particular ive to look out for in getting one of these drives and are they as easy to install as a pci card? (only with some wires involved) but should everything be available once i open the comp up to hook up the new drive?

i figure it should be since there is an option to expand it! ...but yeah any help appreciated!

Pretty sure this is the Pc model with the specs, if not its almost identical to what i have... (Compaq Presario SR1719UK Desktop PC)

    pic - http://www.woot.com/Images/Sale/Compaq_Presario_Media_Center_Desktop_PC_LTO-detail.jpg

    comp info - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00587147&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&product=1829149&lang=en

    DVD/CD drive model - (seems to be LG) - HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GCA-4164B

what it says about the drive bays...

    Drive bays (available)
    Bay type Quantity
    5.25" external Two (One available)
    3.5" external Two (One available)
    3.5" internal One (None available)

can i install a new one or do i have to disconnect the old one so i can put a new one in?

is that info any use :S

yeah cool got it sorted i could have went either way, but i got a sata drive the other day with the cable included... there is 2 spare sata connections to the motherboard...

but there is no actual way to secure the drive into place or anything, theres no screws to screw it onto, will i just place it in and elave it as is? it fits into the slot good enough, but nothing to screw onto!

    got this - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-sh-s223b-super-writemaster-sata-dvd-rewriter-drive-03701175-pdt.html :)
