    Hi guys,

Recently moved to Galway and looking to join the gym. I am wondering if anyone knows if they do any special offers for alumni or recently graduated students from NUIG (I graduated last October)?? If anyone could help me out that'd be great!!

I don't think so. As far as I know, the only reduced rates are for current students and staff. I'd say you'll have to pay full price, unfortunately!

yes there's an alumni rate, call them up or call into them to find out the exact figure, or look them up online...

Does anybody know how much of a discount you get if you actually are a student in NUIG?

It was €250 for the year last I checked, it's a good bit cheaper than if you're not a student.

I didn't know they had alumni rates, must note that for when I leave college!

Been a member there for a few years now. Didnt pay the student membership but did get a cheaper rate and an immediate get out option if I was to lose my job.

If your not a student, go in, ask can you try out the facilities (which are top class mite I add!), they usually give you a 1 week trial. Leave it a week or so and phone them back saying you are interested but the rates are a bit high and see if they'll offer you a better price..

You wont have to pay it all up front either..they do it monthly direct debits or laser payments. Great place (and i dont work there either!)

Well considering that you also pay a gym levy- it works out more expensive that 250.
And to be honest, I have been a member for the last year and am very underwhelmed by the maintenance of the place!
Nice gym, but changing rooms are always closed, toilets are always out of order or toilet role, several machines are broken at a time, etc.
For example was in just yesterday and 3 out of 8 exercise bikes are out of order and both upstairs toilets are out of order, coupled with the fact that one of the changing rooms is permanently closed.
Then to top it off, the cd playing started skipping and there was no staff member around to sort it for nearly ten mins!
The SU should really be pushing these lads to provide a better standard of service

There's two bathrooms upstairs? The gents changing room has been closed for months now its becoming a joke.

Yeah there is a universally accessible one on the main hallway and then also there is a door with 'studio A' on it that connects the main upstairs hallway with the stretching room-there is another bathroom in there.
It would at least make sense to open up the gents changing rooms when the repeat exams are on

    YEah, it's €250 for students.

Expensive enough, considering places like Maynooth have the gym free for students, but the machines and pool are nice, although prone to crowding (Best bet is to head in early and avoid the post college/work rush in evenings)

If you're a student who wants free gym use, the Daingean centre has a small weights room and out door track which you can use.

Anyone know what are the times you can pay for just a single use of the gym?

Why don't people just go for a run around the field in front of the gym? It's free...

what a helpful comment but a gym doesn't just have treadmills. there's also weights, a pool, and loads of other facilities. plus i wouldn't really fancy running when it's pissing rain.

That's the best time to run!:D

Well the field has rocks and there's a river just beyond...
Though I'll grant that a nice heated, currentless pool could be nice.

And it's open all the time - one isn't forced to run if it's raining...

And if one's looking for a "helpful comment" - Google yields
    http://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CBkQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nuigalway.ie%2Falumni%2Fdownloads%2FDiscount%2520Scheme.pdf&rct=j&q=kingfisher%20rates%20alumni%20galway&ei=s3J9TIbzD4fJ4Abs8uydBg&usg=AFQjCNFg1v7twCPW8ui6zXZ5RVTJvpbr1w&sig2=zDCSeXjaHfCBFmGyi3q4kw which includes
    "The Kingfisher Club
    Renmore, Galway
    Tel: (091) 773 344 | E*mail: info@kingfisherclub.com
Discounted single annual membership fee of €495 (normally €640).
    "
    Granted that's Renmore...

But this one: http://www.gyms.ie/contact-190-kingfisher-club-nuig.html seems like it would sort the OP right out.

7-9 in the morning, 2-4 in the afternoon and 8.30 to 9.30 in the evening. I'm not 100% sure about the morning but the others are definitely right
